Yes it's for real, just ask Skinny Wheels above.
Got it done at the Doncastor show, but can't remember the name of the stall.
Any decent number plate manufacturers should be able to sort you out with one.

Thanks for the info. Add that to Bel550 and Origin Blue i, and should have all the bases covered as far as speeding goes....(not that I ever would) Or maybe I need a laser jammer too?

Id back up what BLUE says on that one.
Ive seen the old bill load the image on the computer, and then increase things like contrast, inverse neg etc etc...and bingo.
Then they will do you for trying to avoid etc etc.
Out of interest, try mucking about with the image on Photoshop

I've always wondered how good these things are, thanks for the photo!
One question though - the photo shows the plate pointing directly back at the camera, which would give a high specular reflection; in practice the gatso's will be off to one side. Any chance of taking another shot slightly off to one side and seeing if the same effect is achieved?
If so I might just be tempted to source one myself

Perhaps i'm wrong but I thought the police wern't allowed to digitally enhance evidence, in any way, to pursue a prosecution.
As far as i'm aware the strips you run along the top of your reggie plate, to flash simultaneously with a gatso, are also legal.
Anyone care to correct me?
Paul

Paul, you are right in that they cannot digitally enhance an image (enhancing is nothing beyond fancy guess work)
Anything you do to avoid detection, whether a plate like this, or the ones which flash back are illegal, as you are actively trying to avoid detection (can't remember the correct wording of the offense) Technically speaking if your radar detector goes off, and you respond to the fact it has gone off you are in fact braking the law for the same reason (have argued this point with a former police person, in that if you use your eyes to spot a gatso and slow down, then you are doing the same...)

I have been to a presentation done by the police to look at the different plates against the technology behind the GATSO.
NONE OF THEM WORK!!!
Honestly guys, none to this date have produced one that will evade a GATSO. The police do not enhance the film at all. Majority of the time a simple negative will work to reveal the plate. You are wasting your time and money!!!!!!

No!!!
None of the techniques work.
Unles you have no license plate, a false (as in different number to your own) or as said above pass through above I think it is 165? You cannot avoid detection.

The plates wouldn't be much use in Northampton, even if they did work. We've got Truvelo(sp?) GATSO's which not only work off induction loops in the road (radar detectors won't pick these up) but they also work using IR so you don't get a flash

They tested these on ukspeedtraps, the results showed that on one car they worked and on another they did not. This was due to the position of the number plate on the car. They advised testing by using a digital camera placed at the same height and angle as a Gatso.

i will give it a try at the weekend but i dont think the test will work properly because my camera has`nt got a high intensity flash like the ones used in the gatso.(and you need that to blank out the plate!)
will post results on sunday

I can tell you now that the plates you have are not Gatso resistant plates.
The plates that you want do exist but not to the mere mortals like you and I.
The plate shown is an anti-flash one but similar to the ones all those who claim to be celebs as seen in newspaper photographs of the likes of Beckham and such like.
However these are not Gatso resistant.
True Gatso resistant Plates are used by a priviledge few in our country and around the world. They are specially made for special people for special circumstances. They are definetly not avalible to the likes of you and me and have a price tag to match.
Dont waste your money unless you become a celeb.
This information is based on very first hand experience!
Bye

Thanks Steve, had a slight memory problem there
Detectors are legal, to have and use, however it is illegal to slow down because of it warning you of a camera. The flip side being it was illegal to speed in the first place, it just happens that by slowing down you are adding to your list of offences, but minimising your risk of getting pulled for the former one.
I've had mine for years now, and use it because I like the beeping noises

and correct me if I am wrong, in my biking days the penalty for an incorrect no. plate was a £30 fine only.
Personally I would not dream of doing a thing like that, suffice to say my private plate is still on the Shogun and the STi7 has a 02 number plate!!
