Running an AMG
Hi,
I'm thinking of changing the car this year I have a MY05 STi its the third Impreza I have owned and want something different. I'm thinking about an Evo 9 or possibly a Mercedes E55 AMG or a C63 AMG. But I need to know a bit about running one.
Has anyone here had one of these cars, are they reliable?
What is the servicing interval on them?
How much are they to service?
How much are parts, disks, pads etc?
My scooby is starting to **** me off, I look after it, it has about 36k on the clock and has a bad case of road rash. The lip on the wings is badly chipped and there is some surface rust. I have just sold a 1999 Xantia with almost 180k on it and the paint was in better shape than the scooby. They dont seem to put many coats on the car.
Thanks.

I 'm here , there . everywhere
the C63 will cost you more on fuel ...service I think its condition based, but be aware these are £50k+ new so expect £50k+ car maintainance cost !!
afew £100s for standard sevice (normal oil change etc etc )...anything major £700+ @ the Stealers
I had all my brake disc and pads replace on my M5 ' a inde specailist the cost was around £1k+ using oem parts
oh the paint on german car is not what they used to be
i have chips on the bonnet of my M3 with only 6k on the clock and very few motorway miles as well !!

Spoke to an Audi dealer about the RS4 and the servicing was I think £400 for an oil change. I owned an A4 before and my wife is only 4' 10" and she couldn't see out of the windows. The glass in the doors seems to be higher up or the seats lower down, anyway it had to go.

I have a mate who recently bought a C63 AMG. he loves the car, is expensive to run and his fuel bill makes my 370bhp sti look like a 1l.
I have just ears some absolutely horrendous horror stories about mercedes.
So if cost is not an issue then check out the local dealer and speak to customers.
But at 50k+ 2nd why not go for a Ferrari, Aston or if the budget a lambo??

Both AMGs mentioned use more fuel than my 2003 RS6 and that averages 15.6 mpg combined to give you an idea.Discs and pads will be around the 1k mark, servicing about 500,tyres will be around the 300 per corner.Just look out for rust as the pre 06 cars especially suffered quite badly
Great engines though

Again, if you are spending that much on a car, why are you worried about running costs?
What you basically want to hear is 'not that much'. What you will actually hear is ' they cost a packet to run!'
This is a review I pulled from autotrader:
Pros this car is a awsome drive smooth fast sounds great full of gadgets even after 6 month i was still discovering things that it had.
Cons the servicing cost are really high especially if you plan on keeping up with MBSH £500 for a set of spark plugs is a joke mercedes still think that the people that own a 2004 e55 amg have got more money than sense also if it breaks you WILL be in deep pockets to get it fixed this is not just a mercedes but a AMG mercedes they are much more expensive for parts ..
I loved my e55 it is a amazing car but i got off lightly with it for the 2years i had it i only spent about 2k on parts servicing ect it could have been a lot worse for shure
