Hi all, im fitting a new rad and fans and was wondering if i actually needed my expansion tank? or if i can just route the pipe from the header tank to underneath the car? as the expansion tank only catch's expanded waste water and it cant be sucked back threw the header tank anyway...

Do i need it??

The level can go up and down slightly (about an inch) When hot then cold, so in guessing it does go back, So i would say no.

I can definitely confirm that the tank can go from virtually full to "normal".

hhhmm... i may have to replace it with something smaller,,

has anyone reversed the fans on the rad so there infront of the rad and not behind it??

If you are referring to my original post about wanting your expansion tank it was a moment of madness on my part. It's a washer bottle I'm after not an expansion tank - hence the reason I edited the message.
