ill start with saying i have no technical or long experience with scoobs heh :P

but id heard the same as what RA Dunk said
just drive the last mile off boost etc and maybe let the car idle a minute job done
thats what ive been doing with mine anyhow
ive read that gives the engine a nice airflow to cool it instead of it sitting at a standstill etc

If some experts in the field could put they#re 2pence in id like to know they'd feelings on the matter, because as above its all new ground for me!

Turbo timers are a waste of time and money unless someones out to impress their mates down Maccy D's on a Saturday night.

Never had one on any of my turbo cars. They really are just a gimmick in all honesty.
Some alarm systems come with turbo timer's added on and seem 'cool' when you can walk away from your car an it turns itself off.
If you have been driving very hard then just allow your car to tick over for a minute or so before switching it off.
If I bought a car with one fitted then I wouldn't have it removed but it's not something I would go out and purchase.

Waste of time and money to fit one

Maybe good to impress the 15 year olds in McDonalds car parks .

As pointed out always drive off boost ,low revs and just let it idle for half a minute/ one minute before switching off I have driven turbos for 20 years now and have always used this method

Also there is implications with insurance with fitting one and also a possible offence is committed if a engine is running on an unatended vehicle ?

General consensus I heard in the past was that the newage engines would never need a turbo timer as the coolant continues to circulate even after the engine's turned off.
If that's true then yes, they're a gimmick for newage cars and you don't need to bother.
I still follow the same principle as RA Dunk and drive the last mile home off boost nice and easy and let the car idle before turning it off.

I know a few people who run 400+ bhp on their Imprezas and don't run a turbo timer - I think that tells you all you need to know. Let's face it - if it was such a big concern, anyone who'd spent big money to get big power would be fitting one?

lordharding also makes a valid point about insurance etc.

they technically invalidate your insurance as they bypass the immobiliser making it void?

no need for turbo timers I know many people over 400bhp who don't run them, it's all about common sense really drive last mile or so off boost then I normal do as mentioned take belt of grab things out of car and switch of no problems at all, if there needed them don't you think Subura would have put them in lol

If you need something like a turbo timer to remind you not to turn your car off straight away after booting it, then you shouldn't be driving a performance car.

Like dump valves and them stupid pathetic Lexus style lights - useless crap

But this thread isn't on about standard fitment items. If your car doesn't have a turbo timer or lexus lights as standard, why fit them afterwards for no gain

my view was alway that they were a bit pointless until i fitted one.

very handy as i use the car as a daily driver and when im late for work it is very useful to park up take keys and let the car cool down while i run in and apologise.
