Scoobys that were imported as a gl.
Hoping to get a scooby soon and been looking around, i have seen you can get models that have been imported in to the uk as gl model, but when there actualy a wrx, but has gld on the log book.
Where does the law stand on this, because i can insure one for next to nothing, would i be right in thinking that im not doing anything wrong because thats what the car is registered as?
Cheers

Yeh you would as its not to gl spec , u have an accident in it, even if someone runs into the back of you, and your insurance will be void. if its a wrx or an sti then thats what it need to be insured as, not what it says on the log book insurance companys aint stupid and will do anything to get out of paying up.

Mine was imported as a GL but it doesn't matter how you look at it, the chassis number clearly states its a WRX RA and it is an STi variant. When you insure a car, the insurance company will ask you to confirm the make and model of your car, as soon as you confirm that the car is a GL when you know it isn't, you have just voided you insurance policy.
I had the log book changed to model type sti which in hindsight was probably the wrong thing to do as with it being a 1995, it should really have been logged as a WRX but never mind.
Does that help?

Do you not realise that if you have a crash, your car will be inspected?
This bit not aimed at OP:
Insurance inspectors know exactly what to look for and I wouldnt be surprised if they are paid bonuses for getting insurance companies out of having to pay for claims.
I'm sick fed up of seeing adverts for classic WRXs for sale with "cheap insurance as registered as GL"
F****** muppets.
Dont bother getting the log-book updated, just insure it as the car it really is. Mine is registered as a GL, but insured the way it legally should be.
