My thoughts aswell unless proven build by reputable company then i would avoid.

When my ej25 eventually does give up then am looking down the ej22 route any ideas of price from rep engine builder ?

its worth a punt at the starting price. the guy may be good with a spanner. ive built my new 2.5, im no trained mechanic but i bet my bottom dolla its as good as most subaru specialists as i can't afford for it to go wrong, thats why i took my time and bought good quality parts. buy cheap, buy twice. the guy may have the same aproach as me. if he was fitting it in his own car but plans have changed, and he's got the recipts to back up, i cat see any reason why there would be a problem with it. Too many people on here are all to quick to hand over thier cheque book when it comes to engine builds and modifying. Its very easy for us to sit here and criticise engines we have not seen in the flesh so to speak as they maybe perfectly ok, as may the one that this thread relates to.
Just my opinion.

Valid point biggazvr6 !

But the point is would you part with nearly 4k on an engine that really has no guarentee !

As i said im not sure how long my engine will last once taken on the track so am looking to get a proper engine built with a little reassurance that its been put together professionally with a guarentee as i wouldnt want to spend 4k and not last longer than the road i picked it up from !

It's not 4k yet. There is no reserve! At a guess it will go more around the 3200 mark. From the spec list which he has recipts to prove there is near 2k on parts if not more if he has used what he says he has. If I was looking to buy, I'd go have a look, ask some questions, see what the guys like. My guess is that within the first 5 mins of me talking to him I'd know if I'd be buying it or not. If I was happy and it was what he said it was id part with my cash.
As for gaurantees, my old man had his motor built by teg sport some years ago, Cost him an arm and a leg. 3 months down the line, comp down on cyl 3. They wernt even interested, sorry but there is no gaurantee on perfoance parts was the response. I'd be more pissed of in that instance than I would be if I'd of bought one from jo bloggs down the road!

EJ22 are generally used in 2.35...
I would say from normal engine which you have now, later will be proper monster(2.35) for reasonable amount...

Unless the owner has checkable receipts then it really is a leap of faith. The reason for not fitting seems a little lame, give the time and money committed however there could be a perfectly legit reason behind it.

Spelling and lack of EEEEnglish is a little worry but he seems to talk the talk.

If the chap has the receipts to back up the build then is seems good value.

Would not touch it with a barge pole.

might turn out to be a little cracker, but im not one for gambling 3k at a whim. I would want to know ring gaps, piston clearence, surface finish of bores ect were correct, and the only sure fire way is build it yourself, next best thing is a reputable builder with some sort of warranty.

Worth a punt if you have 3k spare, and the money to rebuild if it all goes south.

Maybe this, maybe that... not a guarantee by a reputable engine builder though is it?

Expensive punt if the engine turns out to have a "weak link in the chain" so to speak.

For nearly £4k I'll pass

How ironic, a friend of mine recently built his 2.0 forged engine on his kitchen table. Duncan fitted and mapped a Syvecs on Tuesday, he is down again on Friday for a meth map.....hoping for over 450 with the SC46, the build pulls hard and feels really strong.

My point being, dont judge a book by its cover...

Not really. Your mate probably has some intelligence, the ebay joker obviously doesn't.

Anyway in relation to this thread, it's a massive punt bordering on moronic to buy something like that off the bay.
