That **** is crazy. I've put pictures of my car online so a potential thief could use those to see where my car is.
Best I get my tracker reactivated, lol.....

Best to use your SLR or Compact (though some latest compacts have this feature I believe) camera to upload pics rather than phones.

Thanks David.

I had no idea about this! It's something people should be aware of!

I've made this as a sticky in the general thread - of course it applies to numerous other threads e.g. Gallery, For sale etc...

Surely if you don't have geotagging enabled they can't stalk you?

I noticed that my iPhone 4 has the location services enabled as standard, it's easy enough to disable but it is very worrying that if someone knows what to look for then your location can be tracked.

The video shows that you can track where a picture taken by cell phone was taken, to within about 15 feet. They show a person taking 3 or 4 pictures on her way to work and then posting them on Facebook or similar.

The pictures actually have a GPS locator embedded in them and you can follow this bird all the way from her house, to her work and see her routine and the time of day.

Similarly it'll tell you where a really nice Subaru is parked...................

I just checked the video link it works here still try writing down the url and reloading on a different system to see the whole thing.

It is a worry.

The Geotagging feature can also be pretty useful mind

Its Just people should be aware its there i guess.

I've always left mine on :d
But then most of my pictures end up on facebook which seems to strip all the extra info anyhow

Most devices will also tag what device took the picture, time dates etc etc

Some SLRs now have geotagging. I wondered why you would want to turn it off other than battery life, now I know!

The US and NATO military picked up on the Geotagging earlier this year. Smart phone pictures of Operating Bases, camps and patrol houses where being interogated for there GPS locations and being used to help operations.

Just love the US FOI Act

Not a big problem, just edit the picture and use the"Save as" and give the file a new name. Then all info about camera and geotag won't be availeble anymore.

This is not as big a deal as you think, if you crop or modify your pics and save with a different name before uploading them, the exif data is removed from the photo unless of couse you specifically save the pic with it still in place.

I feel pretty safe as i only really use my computer at work, which is in the middle of the North Sea and our connection is routed through Georgia. However am glad i read this and will never use my phone to upload any pics of my car.
