Question

Yesterday, at the Dutch AutoRai, i asked the Dutch importer about it. He said he knew nothing about it. Maybe it's UK-only?

You mean go into the acres of stock they're building up - swap the seats (say 3 hours), change the headlights (say 2 hours), swap the door panels (say 1 hour), and bolt on some wheels (say 30 mins) .

I hope it is better than the one we get in the US, limited to a run of 400. (and that was too many) :

Question

I've heard from my dealer today that there is going to be a special edition wrx which will be out in may. All i know is that it will have a headlamp conversion, gold wheels special fabric interior and a run of about 300 cars.

I bet its going to be £2000 more than standard car for these mods ( ooh sound worth it )

Thats all i know unless anyone else knows more.

They won't sell many looking like that.

Suppose they've got to do something to bring up sales!

Very nice Pete!

The lowered suspension helps the looks no end, and the rear-spoiler helps so much!

I might even be persuaded to buy one at this rate!

its starting to look like the rally monster it should be
only PIAA or CIBIE, CLEAR INDICATORS, JAP SPEC LIGHTS, BONNET VENTS,MORE POWER AND DECENT INTERIOR to go
In a couple of years it will look the "dogs" if IMHO keep adding the right bits

P.S
does anyone know when the WR is coming out

My dealer told me on Saturday that the Special Edition will be in Sonic Blue and have the Prodrive Rally Car lights! He also said that he was under the impression that those lights would then be available as an option on all WRXs!

We did have a thread on this a couple of weeks back.

WR Blue
High rear wing
Revised Headlights
Revised front spoiler
Gold Wheels
Alcantara Seats -buckets

Option of

PPP (240bhp) and hopefully a nice wheel upgrade.

I'm top of my dealers list if I want to wait.
See Pete's car is showing the age of the MK1 already

Rsquire, I check out the site. I saw the parts but not a link to the development of the car. I assume that the parts are the same.

It's looking good Pete - when do I get to have a go in it......might even stop some of the MY01 knockers now....

The original Impreza took seven years to turn into the car it should have been. The development time on the MY01 will be about a third of that. Impatient lot, aren't they???

Lovejoy et al

The suspension is different from the old car, new damper and spring rates, plus completely different travel and ride hide. The price will be similar and we will have the web site up dated with WRX parts sooooooon

I have also fitted our HID lights on the front (shown in the pic) and the WRC spoiler is our own. This is the prototype, but looks right for the car. It uses the brake light from the standard spoiler and this sits in a recess under the foil, maintaining a clean airflow. I want to make a couple of very small detail changes, but the mould construction starts next week and we will have stock in 6 weeks time. The foil will be in carbon fibre (which can be painted or left in its polished finish, as before) and the price will be just under around £400.

The car was tested on Tuesday by a Danish magazine. They have had a standard WRX for two weeks and could not believe it was the same car, saying that the ride, handling and power delivery put it in a different class to the standard car

BIG thanks to Diablo for sorting the picture

Sorry Pete - maybe ive missed the point but...

Car looks wicked. Ive got the new WRX as well. Do you work for a company who does WRX bits? If so do you have a website address you can post.

What mods have you made to the car ito the perfomance? Just an exhaust or more? Is the suspension Leda or your own supplied kit?

I want one of those spoilers!!! And your doing lights???

Any info would be appreciated

Fellow WRX owner!

Hi James

My profile will reveal all

My WRX has a new full exhaust system and ITG filter and that's all it will get on the power side of things. As Subaru have made the standard WRX exhaust a smaller diameter than the 92-00 car, this has made a big difference in performance.

I'll have details on the website soon.

Pete,
how is it possible the car is so much better after such a short development-time, ScoobySport has got a MY01 for less than a month?! And what's the ugly side of these mods? You know, it seems to me the Subaru guys did their best and they are not dumb, even testing the WRX on the German Ring and all. So how is it possible you guys get a far better ride and handling in only a few weeks? Is it because you use better and more expensive parts or is the car made less comfortable? Or are you a Genius ?

Or Hunk, it could be that we have different objectives for the car and assume that our customers will be prepared to sacrifice a small bit of the "Lexus" style ride for some extra grip and control.

The suspension development was done over seven days. Since then the car has done 800 miles of mixed road testing. There are a couple of fine tweaks that will be incorporated in the production units, but the system is virtually "signed off".

With regard to Subaru taking cars to Nurburgring... The cars were in production (in fact we also saw a dockside picture at the same time, showing cars awaiting shipping to various countries) and the 'Ring was not used for testing. It was used for PR and may have been a very well engineered leak. What better way to create enormous interest in a car, than have it "scooped". The development had been done a year before this and you don't take a secret car to a public road for development.

Then again, the car's at the Ring were STi's, NOT WRX's, so maybe they were still working on the suspension for the STi models. As you know, this always has been and always will be more performance orientated, compared to the European/US issue models.

You have to look at the overall package of this car to realise how easy it was to improve. The car is very smooth and very quiet. Excellent NVH, as they say in the trade. The car has been designed as less of a "driver's car" to appeal to a wider market.

I don't know anyone who didn't buy the previous model, because of its NVH (Noise and Vehicle Harshness).

I'm not criticising what Subaru have done, but I am sure that Prodrive (and others) will also offer suspension kits which also improve on the standard equipment.

If you are prepared to sacrifice a small amount the extra NVH levels, then there are huge benefits in handling to be had from the extra rigidity of the new chassis.

You just have to decide what you want from your car.

I'm not a genius, but many of the people who work for me are

Thanks Peter. Guess im a muppet!

Does the exhaust bring the car back on a par with the old model in performance terms?

I agree with everything you say about the new model. Can you put me on your mailing list when the new exhaust and suspension are available!!!

Pete & Team - Well done on the mods so far. Looking more like an international rally star now...

As an "old" model owner, this is looking pretty good now.... The main thing I am not keen on with the new Model is the front headlamps.... Changing the look of these would not be easy though..

Lovejoy - Urghhhhhhhhhh. Get that yellow piece of crap off the page.. Thank god theres only 400 of them. Urghhhhhhh
