DAMAGED PISTON ! 4 POT CALIPER. PLEASE HELP !!!
Hello guys. I bought some 4 pots to upgrade standard calipers on my V2 STI 96. The person I bought it from advertised these as refurbished (new pistons and seals). When I received the calipers I've noticed that pistons don't look NEW. They've had a bit of rust on it. The guy also said that these were sitting in the garage since pistons and seals were fitted and he never used them. I decided to take pistons out and clean them up. I have to admit that seals look new but pistons DON'T. They looked like been sitting in the garage for long time or even fitted on the car. Deffinatelly NOT brand NEW, but cleaned them up and look OK now apart from one. It's damaged. It looks like screwdriver damage while somebody was trying to take it out.
Will this one be OK ? Can it affect on braking?
What do You guys think ?

This is the copy of his advert:
"hi im having a garage clear out ive got a pair of 4 pot callipers with brand new seals and pistons aint bin put o a car since doin the seals neva got round to fitting them sold my impreza now paint aint 2 bad on them but i did start painting 1 but i got the wrong paint as u can see in the pics all the pins and pads etc are all there* happy bidding"
I paid £180 for these. I've sent him an email and asked why did he advertised these as NEW condition if they're NOT ? He didn't reply, so sent him another one and I said that in this case (EBay rules says that if product doesn't match with description you've a right for refund) it would be nice if he'll make me a £20 refund because these are going for around £150-£160 in used condition. Still no answer.
The thing is that transaction has been done off the EBay :-(
Is there anything I can do ????

Looking at the pictures , he hasn't even cleaned up the pistons before fitting them , I would never use a damaged piston.
If its only 1 that needs replacing I can supply you a stainless steel one for £20 delivered , at least they will be safe to use then.
Too many people out there trying to rip people off !

Looks like its been dropped or possible screwdriver/prying damage.
What does the bore in the matching cylinder it came out look like? Any linear scores or scratches matching to that piston and the caliper is knackered.
By refitting it you risk damaging the bore in the caliper, which in turn makes it leak or stick and basically ruin the caliper. You can try grinding/deburring/polishing the damaged edges of the piston so no rough metal stands proud, this will prevent it from scratching the caliper bore. It'll probably be ok to use then, but no gaurantee can be made that it will seal ok in 5 years time etc. Personally, I'd just get another piston (providing the caliper bores are not damaged).

Hi. No scratches ect. :-)
I don't want to risk. I'll get the new one. It is not a lights switch that you can fix and hope that nothing happen.
Cheers guys
I'll have to check the address of that guy so might go for a little journey on Saturday :-)
