Thinking of buying a spec D
Hi all,
haven't posted for a long time as not had a scooby since I sold my blobeye sti ppp a few years back.
I have been taking a break for performance cars over the last year since selling my B7 RS4 but can't take it any more and considering the above car as a cheap option, for now, getting me back in the game.
I don't care about mpg, etc although feel free to share, just want to know if these cars are just sti's in disguise or are there any important differences?
I don't want an "in your face" sti again guys as I'm past that phase in my life, just real feedback on the spec d please.
Thanks in advance.

I wrote this forsale ad to see how I felt about selling and I still haven't made up my mind whether or not to part with this fantastic car yet, but as with all things if the deal is the right one I will let it go
FOR SALE
2006 Subaru Impreza 2.5 STi Spec D
Description:
Background
I bought my Spec D in 2007 having wanted one since its press release in 2005. At a year old it made a cracking second hand buy from my local dealer. At just 7k miles and in mint condition it was ripe for some subtle but essential handling and performance mods. I have owned the car for nearly 4 years, although in the last 2 years I have done just under 1k miles and I am no longer sure I want to store the car for such little usage, especially as I have another scoob to use aswell. The car drives extremely well with the very best attention being given to handling and safe power, mapped to a conservative 335bhp/375ftlbs. The interior is factory fresh and still has the newcar smell. My prime objective with this car has been to make it feel as good as the original classic Subaru that I love so much ! 99.9% this has been achieved, it would have to be a wagon to be 100% This isn't my track car I have a classic wagon for track, but in the interests of putting money where my mouth is I have tested the handing upgrades of my SpecD at Brands Hatch Indy Curcuit and happy to report the car is awesome.
Extras included in sale
The car can be sold with the current mocom map, the original factory map or I will happily pay for it to be mapped again to whatever the new owner prefers. We have spent some time logging the map and there are some great changes that can be made to the current map to make this even more special that it already is.
Engine/Drivetrain Modifications:
Wheels/Tires Modifications:
I have 3 sets for this car, all or partly available depending on the new owners budget/requirements...
Choice of STi and Custom 53 Centre Caps
Interior/Exterior Modifications:
12,995 ono

This is my wagon so it's not a normal comparison
https://www.scoobynet.com/garage/199...-41-53WRX.html
Cars are completely different due to the 2.0/2.5 engines gear boxes and ratios. SpecD will fly passed 100 on and on where as the classic is ringing it's neck on such short gearing.
As a trackday car and generally uncomfortable rattly pocket rocket I would choose the Wagon all day long. Even at 40mph you feel like you've just set the land speed record
But as a purposeful, comfortable effortlessly quick road car I would choose the SpecD. The torque makes 6th gear cruising a breeze without any need to change down to overtake, also you don't have to change down stupidly low to cope with 30mphs etc. Engine braking is nigh on non existent and everything just happens when you want it without drama or excess noise.
Comparing scoobs kind of depends what you want from your scoob. Is it your main car or is it a weekend toy ? Both are brilliant but the SpecD is a 'proper' car in the true sense of the word. where as the classic will always be a toy IMHO.
Hope that helps

I made the move to a Spec D a few weeks ago and haven't regretted it one bit. Like you, after owning 8 scoobs in various trim including 3 STi's (all with high level spoilers, etc) I felt that I wanted something more befitting my middle age
After a brief session with JGM, the car now makes 358/380 - it's a real sleeper

Thanks guys
Thanks all for input, I am talking with 53WRX re his car and am sure that the spec D is the right choice.
WRX blues, I hear you mate, I like the idea of the car looking quite "normal" but being a STi under the skin. I love the distinct lack of badging, etc.
I am glad I thought to come in here again to ask for views, etc, as you are all as helpful as you were back in my STi PPP days.

I'm considering going WRX hawkeye wagon only because there isn't a late new age Sti wagon However, although the WRX can be tuned to 350/400 which with a 5 speed sounds very nice for a daily drive, it just isn't an Sti...
