Default Winter Re-build.

After our final race at Brands in October last year, the car was tucked up while a plan for 2011 was formulated.

With some time on our hands, it was decided that the car deserved some tlc to minimise reliability issues in the future.

The engine was removed to allow a baffled sump to be fitted, along with a cambelt change and general service. The baffled sump has been fitted to stop oil surge which can leave the oil pick up pipe sucking on nothing but air, and leading to an untimely end to the engine.

Unfortunately a[FONT=Tahoma][B] leak down test on the engine showed that several of the valves were leaking, and one of the head gaskets was on its way out. Further investigation showed that each combustion chamber had cracks radiating from the spark plug.

Basically both heads were scrap.

ScoobyClinic came to the rescue with a pair of Sti 8 cylinder heads, which were damage free, so thankfully keeping rebuild costs to a minimum

Through a new 2011 sponsor “Supertech”, we were supplied with a complete valve train assembly (inlet/exhaust valves, valve springs and Titanium retainers) for use in the rebuilt cylinder heads.[/

The gearbox has also been checked over, and a couple of the synchro hubs have been replaced, but other than that all looked good

Returning sponsor for 2011 "Revolution Wheels" has pulled out the stops to hook us up with their new "ALLU-LITE" motorsport wheel.

At 8"x18", the wheels will give the Subaru a wider track, an increased tyre footprint, along with an even more purposeful look on track.

Fitting these meant the car had to be equipped with arches to help cover the extra width of the rim and tyre

ScoobyClinic’s body shop trimmed each wheel arch to allow for suspension travel, before dressing them and fitting the new extensions. Now painted in the same white as the car, they have transformed the car’s appearance

The wheels are fitted with Michelin Porsche Cup slicks and wets, and Toyo 888’s for race series that require a class 1b tyre.

Carbon Fibre mirrors have been supplied by another new sponsor “JapSpeed”, which despite a smaller size to the standard mirror, they still provide an excellent reward view.

“JapSpeed” have also provided new chassis components to help further improve on the car’s cornering performance.

New “Goodridge” fuel lines have been run through the car from the front bulkhead to the rear. Inside the boot, new fuel filters have been worked into the system, along with a relocated swirl pot which is now fitted with a connection for the fuel sampling kit.

The position of this allows the system to be totally drained, or just the swirl pot should we need to change the fuel pump.

The rebuilt engine has now been fitted with parallel fuel rails, again to improve reliability through better fuel delivery and a fuel pressure regulator allows us to monitor the goings on.

With the engine back in the car, it’s hoped that we will soon be able to have the car on the rolling road, and ready for an upcoming track day. After that, it’s only a matter of weeks before the wheels turn in anger at Oulton Park on the 26th March

Cheers
