Make sure the dccd is working ok apart from the norm like clutch slip, oily intercooler, excessive brake disc wear on new discs a good sign of hard driving similar to any other car really, number of owners when it was imported service history if any ...
The only thing i was concerned with when i bought mine was the gearbox, made sure each gear went in without any trouble as the selectors get a good hammmering if not engaged properly.
Any over spray of paint is a good indicator of accident damage or new lights and panels on one side etc...
Any mods and if so has /who mapped it assuming its not a v4 sti as unmappable with standered ecu.
Just be as thourgh as you can if it takes an hour to go over it so be it, you will know by looking at it ifts a good or bad car.

hope that helps a bit
