Default classic roof skin from dealer!!!!!!

I peeled my roof off today on my project car as it has a sunroof and will make easier access for custom cages to weld .
I have sourced a second hand roof skin from a breakers in halifax for £100 but have got to remove it myself, now i know from experience today the its a bitch of a job as the picture below demonstrates .
Now my dilemma is that chandlers at horncastle have one in stock at a whopping £380 + vat ,i want to know if there are any other company's out there that do something similar but a better price ie price for carbon roof or fibre glass etc... the cage is providing all of the strength for the car your thoughts please.

I would have welded a skin in place of the sunroof, and vinyl wrapped over it. Ive got a sunroof on mine which is rotting from the inside out... im debating weather to fit a new roof skin, or reshell it. At the mo, im toying with the above idea of filling the hole and wrapping it over.

How was it to remove the skin? Is it all spot welds?

Yes mate was a bitch i had to drill out all spot welds with a 6mm drill bit, then run a sharpe stanley knife down the skin edge and gently prise a screwdriver down the 2 edges to split it from the supporting pillars.
How anyone can get one of these off in 1 piece is beyond me !

My initial thoughts were to just pot rivet an ally plate over the hole but as i'm going to do the job properly as the shell will be then gpn and a proper job i decided to remove the old sunroof skin as in my project thread in members gallery.

Will check your project thread out! Glad ive found this as i have the funds to get a roof skin, but after seeing the work in action im having second thoughts about it all now. I guess a carbon roof is an option for you but thats serious wedge... I would just throw it into a bodyshop and let them put it back together. Good luck mate.

Dont need the roof skin for a while yet as car goes in for cage mid april, just getting things ready for them.
When i put my screwdriver through the roof i knew there was no turning back... one of those jobs "wish i never started"! ,but long term will be for the best i know it'll be right on the night.
just looking for alternative options if there is any to cover the roof, if i have to then i will buy the roof skin and bite the bullet so to speak.
Thanks for the support on the thread need all i can get .

Welding a piece in would warp the roof to hell mate, even with a wrap it would be visual with out filling first.
