Default Engine check light, HELP ?

Hi

Yesterday I was giving my car some stick and noticed the Engine light started flash, I held off the power for a while and it just went out.

I have checked it with a code reader today and no error code has been stored so i`m at a loss to what the issue was or is.

Has anyone experienced this ? If so what is it ?

Cheers

Rich

Oh I forgot to say its a 52 plate wrx bug wagon, stainless stell exhaust with k&n panel filter at present.

Just been serviced about 200 miles ago, Only other time the light has come on is when the o2 sensor went about 4/5 month ago. Seems to be running the same as before no issues as far as I can tell.

Hi Rich,
I had the same problem a few years back, I was on the mototrway giving it some and came off and was stuck in traffic for some time, like you mine came on and went off, Like you I panicked, I rung the dealer and he told me as long as it went out not too worrie as some dust may have got onto the censor, again he told me to keep an eye on it and to this day touch wood it has never happened again, but when the car went in for a service they did the checks and she came back fine, mine is a MY98 model, Hope this helps.
Cheers
Colin

The Bug Denso ECU gets fooled at high revs and throws a camshaft position sensor error or misfire CEL.

Likely Random Bug CEL generator LOL

Did you check the ECU for Historic Codes?

Its quite a basic cel reader so I cant read historic data just recent or crrent fault, The car seems fine no issues at all but ive neva seen it do that before so was a lil worried, When that happens do I need to pull up or slow down or just keep going ?

What whould cause it to just start happening all of a sudden ?

The DENSO ECU was a major advance on the older JECS ECU of the classic, as I mentioned it was prone to lighting up the CEL at high revs.

I would personally forget about it and remember that at high revs the TD04 turbo is chopping up and heating the air rather than compressing it so change earlier

Neutral position switch is on the gearbox and tells the ECU when the gearbox is in neutral and inactivates any AVCS present (jap WRX and all STi's).

Neutral position switch glitches tend to be read by the Bug ECU as continuous misfire CEL's. Seems daft but Misfire CEL's often cured by changing the switch.

If the car is going into Subaru get them to hook up their select monitor and read any historic codes.

CEL's at high revs are usually just the Bug ECU having a hissy fit LOL
