must admit, at last bedford i thought this was strange, type r hondas, bmws, mistubishis, skylines, elises etc.

then there was the formula palmer audi, if that isnt a ligthweight racer I dont know what is.

did confuse me, as the point of view of safety on track seemed to be right out the window.

anyone want to explain?

would be nice to have the likes of dingy, johnf in the plastic pig, and craigs new creation back.

They weren't out in seperate sessions at Bedford so I see no reason that there'll be seperate sessions at forthcoming ones.

I was out in the Lotus at Bedford. Whats the problem with former scoob owners bringing their new toys out to play? I'm with Craig (unfortunately ) in that, I too, would like to see Dingy, Felly etc etc out playing again. Maybe Stef or one of the SIDC chappies can comment?

Maybe as these aren't full SIDC days?

I'm all up for a nice mixture, esp if I can persuade the missus to let me get a track day car!

cheers,

Steve thats great, if it is snowing we can send your car out first to clear the track.

Saying that, if you want to plough it helps if the car is travelling facing down the roads as opposed to at rigth angles to it.

This is still changign the subject.

can pete or stef please comment as I think a mix is so much better.

Cool

I personnel think you have to be careful at these track days because if you don’t watch it they could attract the wrong crowd and you could end up with the boy racer’s there with there Cleo’s and fiesta’s.
Scooby’s Mitsubishis, skylines are in a class on there own don’t you think.

..and if these lads/girls had previously owned scoobs?
..whats wrong with boy/girl racers on track? These guys love their cars and they're better off on track than in the high street..

Talking

Well I like mixing it with other cars as long as there are not too many of them, we are talking about SIDC track days after all. I firmly believe that long standing members of the Club who don't have Scoobs like John, Cem and Craig should be allowed on with their new cars. The difficulty I think is, where do you draw the line?

I think the rule should be something like, if you've previously had your Scoob on track, you are still a member of the SIDC and you've got a new car, you should still be allowed on, as long as you're not depriving a Scoob of a place on track. I also think John, Cem and Craig should be allowed on in place of a Scoob due to the legth of time they've been members and actively doing SIDC track days/supporting the club.

As I recall, the format is that SIDC days are primarilly open to SIDC members with Subarus. A "few" places will be kept asside for SIDC members with "other" cars.

However, if there aren't enough scoobs booking, then the proportion of "other" cars will rise to take up the slack. There is no point running at a loss.

I don't think that there has actually been much over-subscription at recent SIDC days, certainly Bedford looked a bit lighter than the 70 available places & Brands was last November.

It may be that there is currently too much choice, with a trackday a month, sometimes 2 last year. Prehaps we're a bit weary of it - some of the bug has gone?

At the beginning of last year, the "time" to which Dinge always refers, there were a lot of scoobs/drivers around, so therefore seeing an "other" car on track p'd them off when they couldn't get on. Now there is less scoob demand for whatever reason & so SIDC need the "other" cars back.

Not everybody will ever be entirely happy, but if the SIDC are to carry on doiing trackdays, they must cover their costs - or prices will rise or it won't happen at all

I for one would hope to see Dinge (et al) on track at a future SIDC track event

I miss following round afterwards and seeing what bits have fallen off

What would be nice though, if, as members, we are actually informed of changes like this.

And regarding Dingys car, one of the reasons was that it was "always breaking down". Which is bull - it never runs how can it break down LOL. Being serious, that was one of the reasons and the facct that it's old - same with Cossies - had it straight from the horses mouth - car can't go on - is too old. Is too old, too fast, too slow - what's next? wrong colour? wrong exhaust? Unlikely I know but you get the drift.

Would be nice if they just made their mind up.

Sorry but i have done over 20 track days and stopped 2 sessions.

Only one of them was an SIDC Event.

Plus i was not allowed on SIDC track days, no matter how many spaces left, therefore i didn't renew my membership as i thought it was being run by muppets.

Question

Shot themselves in the foot springs to mind

Craig, remember that day at Cadwell last year when there was hardly anyone on track. It did get a tad boring with no-one to drive against

Being a track virgin I can't really comment, but I do spectate at a few of them.

Personally allowing other cars is a good idea, we're all fairly sensible types, and those who are not will be black flagged, well, one would hope so!

Bedford was interesting, has only just occured to me about the 'no non-scooby' policy, which one assumes should have been in place. Would have not have been as much fun if the skylines and other cars were not there.

If someone said I could join a track day with Nova's and Fiesta's from the Maxpower brigade, then I'd politely decline. I go to the SIDC trackdays because I generally believe that they are populated by more mature and experienced drivers, therefore it should be a little bit safer than a track full of 18 yearolds in cruise-mobiles.

And another thing, it's not much fun having to pull over constantly for faster cars. This spoils your racing line and can be intimidating.

One or two 'specials' at a meeting is fine, but if your constantly being overtaken by more exotic cars then I may as well go on track with the GT cars.

Floyd,

Talking of safety, how many Scoobs have been written off or badly damaged at track days?

Accidents happen everywhere although the younger drivers are "sometimes" a little lacking in perception and technique. Perhaps - diplomatic huh?

This isn't actually the point of my post - the point is that SIDC made a declaration last year and appear to have gone against what they said with no warningg or discussion or anything.

Flloyd

Chose your trackday with care

Snetters last Nov it was bucketing down and only 3 cars past me the whole day (once each ) Porche Turbo, Silhouette Porche 600bhp Cossie Engined racer and some simillar piece of racing exotica The Porky turbo span after passing

However, I went by a whole raft of "exciting" lightweight cars and racers, inc Caterhams/Westies, 2 Skylines (1 a V-Spec) Rainbird's 500BHP cossie and some other *lesser* powered cossies - all over 350 bhp. It was an MLR day, so lots of EVOs too

One guy in a racing Caterham got the hump with me for o/taking him

Different case if it'd been dry maybe, but what goes around, goes around again & again 100+ laps

Floyd,

I know I'm right We could turn this round though to what Puff described above - how would they (Skylines, Porkers etc) feel if they were taken out by a Scoob. I know exactly what you're saying and just being pedantic - I think your scenario is unlikely to happen -but as Rich said, if the said Saxo/Clio etc was piloted by an Ex-Scoob owner, how does that end up?

But like I've said - thats not my point - it's the fact we're told one thing, then the opposite happens.

And you keep your Probes to yourself

Yes, but specifically certain cars were not allowed. It was that simple.
