Hello Kev. Mine went the same.
I changed the rad, and about three days later noticed LOADS of steam from under the bonnet.

With the engine off there was nowt to see, but with the engine on it was coming out of the underside of the top hose in a pin-point spray, close to the engine block.

Took the hose off the replace it and noticed the interior looked like it had been repeatedly slashed with a VERY sharp blade

I think I may have made it worse manipulating it off and back on again when I did the rad change.

But TBH, lucky escape, as I was able to repair it at my leisure on my driveway, rather than having to be rescued from beside a motorway, with possible engine damage due to overheating

just ran it up and all seems ok fans cut in , pipe not leaking . just smoke like mad . the smoke died out once i took the under tray off to look for any more leaks . im hoping that it is just the coolonant on the under tray causing it to smoke as it was down by the headrs on the drivers side and the tray it soaked from doing the pipe .

You've not bought a second hand one, have you? That's likely to be false economy......

Samco is a waste of money tbh, they offer very ittle over a stock item other than colour

Stock item from Subaru is arround £30, from a factor: under £10 brand new.

I could have had one from either of two local factors, ordered in, mind.
The OE SCob one was over the counter.

my own fault for panicing about the leak , knowing that now when i need another one i now who to ask for help , if thats ok . im just haoping its all ok and hasnt got any more leaks . hoping it was just left over coolant on the under tray causing the smoke as when i took it off it stopped smoking .

Probably was, mine gave out SCARY clouds of steam from a TINY little leak

I stopped at a junction, and thought the car must be on fire, everyone was looking and pointing..........

Easy to check if they are going by giving the pipe a squeeze on the bend and its possible to feel where the pipe wall is a lot weaker. Just caught mine in time before the head gasket let go!
