Default Improving tune on my 01 Bug

Currently my Bug is running 285bhp, it has the prodrive intercooler pipe, (y pipe i believe) De-cat up-pipe and Ninja bacbox and a remap before i owned it to acheive the said figures.

I'm looking at a few upgrades.

Lightweight pulleys,
3 port boost solenoid,
Various bushes and front and rear ARB,
Walboro fuel pump or similar,
*Full exhaust system,
*FMIC,
*Oil cooler.

A couple of questions i have are as follows, car is stored at a relatives so can't go out and look so excuse some of the questions i may ask if there a bit noobish.

Currently i have the emissions light on the dash, and the when running exhaust fumes smell of petrol, so guessing it's running a bit rich. when the cat in the up-pipe is removed is there another cat before the o2 sensor? previous owner said he read the code on an OBD2 and it came up with the o2 sensor code and replaced with a new one but still it persists. If it doesn't have a cat before the o2 sensor can it be moved to further down the exhaust behind one the cat.

2nd question which ties partly to the first, how many cats does a Bug WRX have, 2? what options do i have on the exhaust side of things, won't need the backbox as i like the sound of the current one.

On the basis that i'm not sure on the amount of cats which i believe to be 2, one in the up-pipe, nothing in the downpipe and then a cat afterwards?, where is it best to get a sports cat fitted?.

Sports cat in the up-pipe and then a straight through system?
Or if i'm right in my other assumption, De-cat up-pipe which i have and then a sports cat afterwards.

3rd question, is it worth getting a FMIC for the power figures i am running?.

4th question, is it worth fitting an oil cooler? if so where to place it. If i was to get a FMIC could it be placed where the TMIC was?.

Will be looking at getting it re-mapped aswell as i don't have any info on the previous remap, and would like to know a bit more info about what the car is doing.

Would i see much more in BHP than i currently have and what can a WRX safely handle?.

Any other mods worth doing?.

Sorry for the long thread but need the info before i think about where to go from here.

Hi matey at first get car check via OBD reader and check your error code(CEL).
Probably will be again O2 sensor, which usually fails....

Now for power etc.:
You can have look for Cobra Sport Cat 200cel(which will pass any MOT,just your car/cat must be hotter)cost around £225,sports cat are good for 400bhp+(Steve@The gimp running on his Bugeye Sti 453bhp).
FMIC i don't recommend this for your power which you are now running, just look for STi v7-v9 TMIC,these IC are good for 400BHP+.
If you want more power look for VF30,VF34,VF35 or TD05-16G(genuine no eBay copies) and with STi TMIC,3port boost solenoid,Walbro pump,550cc pink injectors and after these upgrades you will see from 330-350bhp.

I will recommend no more than 340BHP on WRX,but some running 400bhp without the problem few years, really depends on car/service/etc.

Fitting oil cooler is not worth fitting until you are running lot of Track Days, for you will be fine Modine Oil cooler, which is efficient and good for you.

For exhaust option look at this website http://www.cobrasport.com/exhaust/Su...1-2007)/31/0/0

first of all mate you can do all this and there will be no real gain, maybe 10 bhp, this is because the turbo you have currently is a td04 and is maxed out, for more power you will need a vf35 o similar which is good for around 350 bhp, and 350 bhp is a safe point to prevent damage to engine and gearbox. at your stage of tune a oil cooler is not necessary unless you want to do trackdays but yes you can put it in place of the tmic if you go fmic setup. a fmic may cause a it more lag but i would have one with a vf35 as then the car is always taking in cool air which is good for trackdays. there are 3 cats and a silencer in the standard exhaust system. one cat in the up pipe which you have got rid of, and two in the downpipe, if you get a sports cat downpipe, both cats will be rid of, then there is a silencer in the centre section form downpipe to backbox, you can get an aftermarket one to remove the silenced part.

HTH

If you`re running 285bhp, chances are it`s been decatted anyway.

Won`t just be the up pipe. The down pipe and centre section one will have been changed as well.

This is for just for noise issue,if you have 2.5" which is good up to 400BHP+(some running more than 450bhp without issue)

Being fairly new to subarus, i don't know all parts of the exhaust system yet can you go through what parts of the exhaust are where.

So the part in that pic is the de-cat up-pipe?

Which part will i need to get a cat in?

Sorry haven't delved much into all the workings of these motors yet.

That's what i thought.

So from turbo back there is a downpipe, then a second pipe which leads to the centre section and then back box.

As i have a de-cat up pipe, will i need to get a cat in the downpipe.

Cobra site is getting me slightly confused in how they describe the sections.

SB26 Subaru Impreza Turbo WRX / STI (2001-2007) - Front Pipe & Sports Cat

SB25 Subaru Impreza Turbo WRX / STI (2001-2007) - Front Pipe / First and Second De-Cat Section

Are the above the same thing, just one with both cats removed and one with a sports cat.

The above then fit onto the centre section.

Hi there

SB25 Subaru Impreza Turbo WRX / STI (2001-2007) - Front Pipe / First and Second De-Cat Section this is without CAT,known as Decated

SB26 Subaru Impreza Turbo WRX / STI (2001-2007) - Front Pipe & Sports Cat
This is Sport CAT or have Sport CAT

Really depend which centre pipe you have/backbox pipework 2.5" or 3",due this double check...

If its your car now decated, best from both is Sport Cat
SB26 Subaru Impreza Turbo WRX / STI (2001-2007) - Front Pipe & Sports Cat
This will pass MOT

No these DP are not same, with one SB25 you will not pass MOT,with second one SB26 you will pass MOT.
