Default Views on HIDs.

Hi all Ive just ordered a set of HID's for my facelift classic, what are peoples views on these do they work well?

I have the standard headlights in and would like to change to the crystal ones is there much light output difference between the two and which one works best with the HID's or are they both more or less the same.

Thanks.

I think that they will become an MOT problem soon. I'm sure I've heard that somewhere anyway.

TBH I reckon the more expensive kits must be an overpriced cheap set anyway. I have asked countless times for beam patterns and to date not one supplier has returned my message, even some dealers on SNet. If the more expensive kits were better than the cheap kits the traders would sell that point all day long. The fact that they don't is very very fishy indeed.

I'm fitting mine on a van first to see how they work, if they are truly crap i'll go for some retrofit projectors.

Pm'd you earlier, the set ive mentioned wouldnt be righ for yours.

Ebay ones are fine, they're near enough all the same. I put an expensive set into my old BMW and then bought ebay ones for the subaru. Opened the box (different packaging) and the bulbs, ballasts, wires were all the same as the ones id paid 3 time as much for

They've been on mine since the summer and never faultered, cant say i have any problems with beam pattern either, and ive been through an MOT with em.

Youll want some white LED sidelights to match now tho

I'll be trying them in my Transit first before I go cutting up the car. It has crystal lights, not that this info is of any use to your subaru.

The Transit lights are good with bulbs fitted so they'll show up the faults in the HID's beam pattern easily, hence the before and after pictures.

You will probably have to make holes in the rear of the headlight unit to run the cables, that's all.

Maybe if you buy the blue/purple purple types, 8000k and above. Up to 6000k is standard on some vehicles..

the kit i fitted was very easy. just cut a hole in the back of the headlight plastic (the bit you remove to access the bulb)

other than that one hole per headlight, everything else is simple plug and play, and easily removed. im ordering another set now and keeping one as a spare, as if one goes again, i wont have to wait a week for replacement parts to turn up.

Having the option of an my99 or an my97 to drive I can say that the crystal lights, even with standard H4 bulbs in, are a HUGE improvment over non-crystal lights.

If I'm honest I HATE hids, wether retrofit or standard oem, they are always the type of lights that seem to dazzle me, especially the ones fitted to Chelsea fu**in tractors should ban them imo.....

Standards are fine for MOT. Its the retrofit hid in non-projector that will become the problem.

The aftermarket kits will be the fail, proper HID setups the manufacturers produce are fine as they have lenses designed for the job.

Do us all a favour and please dont use these on a none HID lense setup, they are not safe for other road users.
