Default MY98 S reg UK spec Back in the Game!!

Had my new scoob for about 4 month's ( Needs tlc but I need to start somewhere) Really wished I never sold my old WRX wagon and Really glad to get rd of the Ford mondeo...
Anyways ould like any advice regarding tuning this ( has a flat spot/hesitates at 2.5K RPM only does this when you cruising then go to put your foot down Does hesitate at all when you nail from stand still ??)
It's got an After market cone air filter and a stainless steel exhaust from the turbo back, Decatted thats about it really Body work needs TLC was painted in a 3 paint flip which would look nice if the guy had done the job right? looks like he painted over a small rust spot on both rear arche's and didn't mask the windows up right so when he came to remove it they is grey line's ( old paint was grey) around the windows. This is a real pain as I can't sort this with out a full respray ?? any Idea's will be greatly appreciated cheers guys.

What fuel are you using? my MY00 UK Classic exhibited those symptoms if it was run on 95RON or BP Ultimate

Done this on Shell optimax, Tesco momentium and 95 ron fuel (which is what i'm using at the mo stuck in traffic most of the time on my way to and from work probably don't even get on boostso don't see the need in getting SUL?) Also I read on here that there is a flat spot mapped in to the standard ecu to pass emisions whether thats true or not ? Would I need to get this mapped as it would need after market ecu ( MY 98 :-( ) probably cheaper to get an old cat pipe and airbox from fleabay not after loads of power

Try an ECU reset once you have a tank of decent fuel.

I assumed it had been mapped for the decat. In that case, If it was mine I'd return to standard air filter & put the cat on & enjoy on factory map asap. Alternatively take it to a decent tuner for advise / map. Avoid booting it until you've sorted it mate, things can get very expensive very quickly. I would worry about driving hard decatted & no custom map.
Good luck

Thought it was only the later new age cars that had to be remapped for a decat?

The principles are the same.

You won't be getting the most of your mods & your more likely to damage your you engine without a custom map. For more responses I'd put this question in scoobynet technical & hopefully you'll get some mappers with sound advise responding. Again, don't boot it until sorted.

You do not need to remap your ecu if you only have a decat and air filter mod.
The things that cause engine failures are thrashing it when cold, using a too thin an oil, incorrect petrol causing det and neglect.

What I would say though is that there is known weakness in the original oil pump. I it was something to do with the relief valve.

Chris, the gent has a small running fault at 2.5k revs. This could be because ecu has sensed trouble at those revs & is pulling out some timing for safety. However, I do conceede that it could also be a number of other possibilities.

Get some advise (normally free) from a mapping guru to be on the safe side, it is your pride & joy. I am not a mapper & the decision is for you to make gammi0025. All I know is that from my own experience I had problems with my decat especially with overboosting & spikes before my remap. I needed to buy a mappable ECU but yours being a V5 MY98 should be mapable.
