Evening folks,
i am fairly new to the Impreza scene and would like to know what oil to use when it is time to change the oil, (soon)
i have a UK 99 classic facelift model turbo, i believe the oil in it at the minute is 5W30 FS is it safe to use engine oil flush or will it kill the turbo?
is it worth getting a mag sump plug too?
sorry if it seems a noddy question but i'd rather i didn't damage my new investment

most unmodified owners esp classic won't use 5w30 as it is quite thin, most use 5w40 or10w40, no need to use flushing oil nowadays as an engine that is coked up enough to require flushing would have a turbo that's seen better days, most modern regularly service motors would never need a flush.

No dont use flush and dont use a 5w30 oil in a classic
The minimum spec oil is a 5w40, go no lower in either weight, the standard oil is a 10w40 semi synthetic, thats probably what the car has been run on most of its life.

Hi.

Never put engine flush in change your oil and filter 5/30 or 10/40 a good oil is far better than flushing your engine magnetic sump plug isnt needed.

ive got a classic,98 and been told to use fs 10/40 or 10/60 millers, hope that helps mate

ok i take it 5W30 shouldn't be in there, the last owner had a new engine fitted 10k ago and i'm sure that is the oil it says on the receipt i may be wrong either way it wont be 5W30 when i change it soon, starting to look a little dirty now, thank you peeps, most appreciated,

hi mate im fairly new to scoobys to and just recently done a service on my 99 turbo wagon 10w/40 castrol magnatec is what i used no probs even in the cold

Magnatec is a so would stick to either a fully synthetic 5w40 if the engine is fairly new tbh.
Go have a look at www.opieoils.co.uk as he does discount for us scoobynet users normally

Cool stuff thanks for all the info folks, had poo my self moment earlier on a round about, turbo boost increased and back end kicked a small amount, lesson number one, its not a NA car anymore..... few

Tony why is 10/40 magnetec a no no in a classic only asking because i have had 9 classics some english turbos but many jdm stis at the moment a sti ra.

I have used castrol magnetec many times without any problems.

Its not up to the job in a turbocharged car, it breaks down too quickly, ok in an NA car though.

cheap 10/40 semi, every 5000 will be just reet
and change the air filter as well

Not wanting to be rude ,but why put cheap oil in ANY car,let alone a turbocharged one . When i bought my 1st 99 uk turbo,the handbook said use 10/40 semi synthetic,so i bought 5 ltrs of shell helix plus. After literally 4 weeks of spirited driving the oil was the same colour as the ace of spades .
I have always used fully synthetic after that and personally for what you pay for 5 ltrs of a good synthetic motor oil(£50 -£60) over 5000 miles can work out at £10 a month if you do 250 miles a week - no brainer imho.Always use the best substances/components you can afford & being as the engine is the heart of your motor ,give it the best you can .If the engine does go bang then you have peace of mind that you gave it the best oil available,buying cheap can sometimes mean buying twice
