Default A QUICK ONE - WHO'S RUNNING LIGHTWEIGHT FLYWHEEL, HOW HEAVY ? Opinions PLEASE !

As per title. Just bought a Exedy Pink Box for mine V2 Sti and got OEM flywheel skimmed to 9 kgs - didn't fit it yet. Considering to buy proper lightweight one ( 6,7kg ) instead. What do you guys think ? Worth it or not ?

I know, plenty of threads about it already but ... :-)

Cheers

Yes, it is safe. Mine has been done by Lateral Performance. Some people do even more than that. Safe point of OEM flywheel is 8kgs only when it's done by professionals, which Lateral are :-)

IMHO no lighter than around 6kg ish. Lol. I have a chromoly Kaiten one that is 4.7kg and it is too light I think. Too much for me anyway. Would need to swap it for 6kg one and test to know for sure though. Slow speeds are a nightmare for me, 30 mph is 3 rd gear or 4th gear and absolutely no torque. Lol.

Got a 5.4Kg on mine, driving into hammersmith daily, so stop start. Just rev it higher after that no problems, and i like the faster run down too.

As long as you have suitable idle its fine. I have no problems 4.6kg from Bob. Revs better, At first did stall until sorted the idle and soon as revs dropped it now kicks back into life without stalling. Now it hasn't done that for over a year....

You are right about the idle revs for sure! LOL. Bob changed mine when he mapped it for that reason.
I didnt mean to intimate that they are no good with a very light flywheel. I just feel for daily driving I (as in myself) would be better with a slightly heavier one I think.
Then again....................................hahaha
