What to do?
I recently sold an item to somebody on here.
Turns out it was wrong so he sent it back and i was going to issue a full refund.
I sent him my full address but he decided to use the Return address that was on the back of the padded envelope. Problem being i had reused an envelope that had been sent to myself and the return address that was on the back was not mine. I have PM'd everybody on various forums that i have bought things from with no sucess.
Now do i owe him a refund?
Do we go halves?
Or do i keep the money seeing as it was him that has lost the item?

I disagree, he should have confirmed the postage address before sending it off. Many people who brake cars will be recycling packaging. Presume nothing.

Surely when looking at the address on the reverse of the envelope the buyer who was returning the item might have noticed the name was wrong, or indeed the address depending on the amount of contact details they had for the seller?
I always, without fail confirm peoples addresses whether I'm buying and returning, or selling and sending, that way there are no mistakes.
Playing devils advocate who is to say the item was ever returned?

how much was the part if there isnt alot of money involved then leave it he sent it so he should at least remember the area or part of a postcode etc. sorry but if it were me the buyer should make sure the part is correct at time of purchase so really any help you give him is a bonus;

it seems one could argue there is a little blame to lie with each party, depending on who was responsible for the wrong part being sent in the first place.
As it stands, the buyer is out of pocket (assuming he's been honest and isn't just trying to blag his money back and keep the part), but if you offer a refund then you are out of pocket as you don't have the part back.
Maybe a partial refund would be the fair thing to do?
just a thought.
