Ok, heres the score - I own a 03 blobeye WRX, so im guessing one of the first blob eyes that came into production. As far as i can tell, its the same as all the other blob's that are from 2004 and 2005 as well (Later red and black momo badge on steering wheel, rev counter in the centre not too the right etc)
Now the confusion comes in...
Iv found recently, when using online lookups for things such as insurance, car parts like oil etc etc.... that my car gets categorized in the 2000-2003 category...fair enough....and then theres the 2004-2005 category, which my car doesnt fall into obviously, but is surely exactly the same as its a blob not a bug??
This wouldnt bother me too much, EXCEPT i noticed that you actually seem to get different parts like oil recommended for the 2004-2005 than you do for the 2000-2003 category!
An example being opie oils today when i tried to look up what oil they recommend... select year 2003 and you get the impreza variations; so i select '2003>impreza>2.0>WRX' and it gives me 5w30.
If you select 2004, which in theory like i said due to my car being a blob eye should be exactly the same....then you get the option 'WRX (225)' instead...this then recommends 10w50.... so is mine 'WRX' or 'WRX (225)'
I know this is a bit long winded and probs very newbie-ish kinda thing to be asking - but im hoping someone can understand my predicament and see why this is very frustrating
Heres a pic as well

I think if you stick to 2000/2003 you wont go far wrong, anything to do with the 2003 isnt been mixed up with the bugeye as they wernt made in that year, some of the specs proberly changed in 2004

This is what i was wondering, but i cant find anything to actually suggest this however.Originally Posted by bugeyejohn

Not being funny but what does it say in your owners manual
OPie classifications could also be wrong. FWIW i'd go with 10/40

Yeh i know what your saying - iv looked in the manual it says 5w30,10w30 or 10w40 with 5w30 being preferred. Lots of people have often said on here that 5w is a bit on the thin side. Iv got another thread about that anyway lol, my main point being here is that i didnt think there was a difference between a blob eye made in 2003 and one made in 2004? Considering it makes difference to parts etc... Originally Posted by 53WRX

I get the feeling that some databases get it slightly wrong and think that the blob eye came out in 2004. Unless anyone here is able to shine some light on the subject as to whether there are in differences?

MY03/4 are the same MY05 had revisions but nothing that would change the oil you put in it. Blobs were seen on 52 plates as are late Bugs but the model is a MY03.
Motul 300v 10/40 is what I always use

back to the oil - the table for turbo engined models in my handbook shows that the 10w40 or 10w30 can be used down to about -17 degrees C....5w30 can go down lower and is preferred....however its never gonna get beyond -10 down my part of the country so im probs gonna go for a 10w40 as well.

Updated interior, Inverted strut type suspension, painted calipers and side skirts... and probably some unseen tweaks ? 10/40 will be fine. I run 15/50 in my classic.

The cold weight ie 5w is ok, the 30... hmmmm well its up to you but I wouldnt put a 30 weight in my spec c and thats an MY03 car (so I run a 5w40 fully synth in there in stead
