It will do the job but your still better off with a 5w40 fully synthetic

the 5 is the cold weight, 40 is the hot weight, its suitable for subaru's (they even have it on their chart), its the lowest cold weight you want to go for though, it will give better cold start protection over a 10w, well not better, make life easier for the engine with less strain

Try driving tonight you will really notice how thick a 15w is in winter
I can also tell you that when I ran a 15w50 in winter, you can tell the difference, it makes the car feel sluggish for a little while, try running a 5w40 fully synth, much better in winter

Tony i will stick a hot water bottle on the sump to warm the oil up .
