Which snow tyres you using? where did you get them from / cost? Whats the grip like?
(Was looking at getting ContiWinterContact TS 830 P's fitted at the end of next week, though slightly pricey lol)

Guessing that if it gets as bad as last year, might be nice to have some shoes that suit the snow.

Those nokians are excellent, I've had them on my GT-B for the last two winters and didn't mangage to get stuck in up to 6" of snow on dartmoor, Alps and in Italy.

Play around with the sizes a bit if you can it can effect price a lot - for example if you can get a cheap pair of 16" wheels to fit them to the tyres are a lot less than 17" versions.

That said, I've just seen the price in your link. That's about what I paid for them 3 years ago, but a few weeks ago the same tyre in the same size and load rating had reached almost £140 each!

get them while they're cheap!!!!

Anyone know a place around Hampshire/Surrey that will provide and fit Blizzak lm25's or Nokian WRG2's?

Continental contiwintercontract

iv just come back from the north of sweden and its pure snow and compacted ice on the roads there yet 50 mph down country lanes that were never salted and are just pure ice was no problem
kwick fit supplied and fitted them 235X18 and they store your proper tires for the winter and vice versa in the summer saves having old wheels hanging around
they call it their tire hotel
never a fan of quick fit but this service is prety cool

Order them from mytyres and they will deliver them someplace local to you to get them fitted

Much cheaper ordering online as anyplace local will have added a fair bit to the cost price

I've been using Conti's for several winters now

Expensive, yes, but still cheaper than repairing body damage...

My Nokian WR G2`s for my Legacy have just arrived direct to fitters from Mytyres; 5 day delivery for 215 45 17`s. Getting them on tomorrow for £ 40, Tyres cost £ 354. Christchurch Tyre Co, who are brilliant and do full alignment, could not get this size anywhere in UK. The trick with Mytyres is not to pay by card if you are getting the tyres delivered to somewhere other than the address that your card is registered at. Pay by paypal instead, or they will ask you to send the money by bank transfer, having refused your card.

Got some ( summer ) tyres my mytyres online and they supplied a list of approved fitters lol. Maybe i should have had them delivered to one particular fitter .... the place i took them didnt have a clue he was recommended and would have supplied/ fitted them for about a fiver more all round !

Waste of time

Give these guys a ring

http://www.roadwheel.co.uk/index.asp

They are pretty good at getting stuff in at short notice and are keenly priced.

Or there's http://www.micheldever.co.uk/ just down the road from you who also have a good reputation

I'm sure the Contis are good, never tried them myself, but the Nokians are by no means a 'cheap' winter tyre. They have outperformed my expectations by far. I've had them on for 2 winters now, this will be the third, and I haven't got stuck yet, and yes I have tried!

Nokian know what they are doing here and have been making winter tyres out of Finland longer than anyone.

Don't put your car in, find the correct tyre size from your current tyre sidewall and put the info in manually

I did afterwards.... (the original size WAS my actual tyre size, but I know you should go thinner for winter tyres)

Then I went for 225 instead and got a reasonable range of choices...

Thinner if possible, but at the end of the day, wide proper winter tyre VS summer tyre is going to be a much bigger difference than slightly narrower winter tyre VS wider winter tyre.

225/40/18. Teach me to get a bloody A4 3.0TDi

I'd be better off sourcing some cheap 16" alloys and getting some tyres for them.

205/50/16 then or 215 which would probably be MUCH cheaper

ah yes, winter tyres are not cheap in large low profiles!

215/45R17s are pretty reasonable at the moment.

I got the Nokians on and don't want snow but wanna try them out! Lol
Although I bought the 225's and that cost me loads more than the 215's are now. At the time they were good price.

price really varies if they're out of season, or in demand. best time to buy is what would seem to be when they get them in stock (ie now) and just before the first snow after which everyone will rush to get them and they're no doubt jack the price up.

Yes mate, caused by hitting some solid object when you have lost control of the car because of no grip from the tyres.........
