He wants £70
About 6 weeks ago I was forced to brake hard due to a cop car charging into the junction in front of me causing me and the car in front to slam on.
I skidded around the car in front [an old Fiesta] and we got out of our cars moaning about the cops.
He began to look at his car and noticed a mark on his rear bumper that I rubbed off. There was no damage at all to either car.
He took my number and has text me today asking for £70 to have a repair to his car.
Now do I tell him to politely 'F OFF' as there was no damage caused?
or do I pay up and avoid the insurance getting involved?

As above , cheeky to$$er . If he persists ask to see a photo of the damage ! infact next time he calls just pretend you have absolutely no idea who he is or what he's on about and do the same if he gets his insurance involved . Try and get him sectioned for being mad

Unfortunately if you went into the back of him it'll go down as a fault claim if he claims off your insurance, and i suspect your renewal will increase by more than £70
As annoying as it is offer him £50, but make sure you get a letter off him stating the £50 is for full and final settlement of the 'incident' between you.

i never saw any mention of this guy running into the bk of him
the situation you have is its his word against yours, but also he has your phone no so it may appear as you have accepted liability? so it would be hard to deny.
personally id just pay up and save the hassle. but yet im not in your boots

Maybe it wasn't for the bodywork? My mate got 'tapped' once in his Corsa, his car looked fine but then at a later date someone found it had bent a few parts under the bumper.
I'd ask for proof but then probably pay up.

For the sake of £70 I would just pay up. If you went in to the back of him I think you are kind of snookered mate. The last thing you want is this tosser to report it to his insurance company and you end up loosing your NCD when they write his 'shed' off.

Basically he tried it on and he got £70 out of me. I suppose I have to ge grateful he didn't go down the usual whiplash claim route.
Moley - I took your advise and got him to sign the declaration.

A mate had something very similar happen a year or two ago but it was a pedestrian step out in front of the car in front of him. My mate braked but gently touched the colour coded bumper of the guy in front.
They got out there cars and swapped details.
A week later the guy phoned up demanding £150 to repaint his bumper. My mate asked to go round his house to look at it for himself.
When he went round the only damage was a bit of paint swap so my mate went back to his car and bought out a bottle of T-cut and a cloth, after a few minutes polishing the mark had completely gone.
My mate looked at the now bemused looking chap and said "is that ok"? the guy said "yes".
Problem solved.
