Default Tuning JDM WRX Bug

Hello, I have a 2000 year bug wrx JDM, its got 64,000 miles on the clock and I'm in the process of buying items for tuning, in terms of BHP i'm looking for 330bhp ish? anything greater is a plus. Now for the Jap model the engines are stronger than the UK ones right?

I have a full 3" straight through cobra system, some brand new STI pinks, I'll be getting an STI intercooler, a walbro fuel pump, new panel filter (or do I go for induction kit), new plugs, oil and filters.

Now in terms of getting a turbo I have a number of choices, vf34, vf35, td05 20g, now I dont know which will be the better option as I dont know enough about them.

Now I do actually want to be careful because I dont want to destroy my gearbox with getting to much running the standard gearbox. I want a nice balance.

Braking a suspension set ups are more or less sorted. Any advice or help would be great.

Stick with a panel filter in the airbox as its fine to 400bhp. You only need an induction kit for well over 400bhp...

Hi Kev possible get more power you will need STi pink injectors(which you have),STi intercooler,Decated Uppipe(Sti uppipe is really good, which is decated) and VF34 or VF35(with this turbo you will see 330-350BHP),3 port solenoid,255 Walbro Pump, probably TD05-20G will be overkill for you(and gearbox),best bet will be for you VF34-VF35 or TD05-18G.
And i think at 330-350BHP your gearbox will be fine(clutch maybe will need upgrade)

Alrite Jura, hows the car? yeah I have all the exhaust stuff sorted. Yeah whats the difference between the VF34, vf35 or the TD05-18g? Yeah a clutch will be a good option.

Car is now at garage and everything will be sorted couple of days
Main difference is VF34 is ball bearing turbo(and making more power and have bigger exhaust housing) and is more expensive, but these turbos are best for WRX all the time
VF35 is thrust bearing(have smaller housing) and making making little lower BHP(340-350BHP,but here is one with 360BHP)comparing to VF34.
TD05-18G is good compromise for between TD05-16G and TD05-20G,making good power(with good one(AFP) you will see 360BHP)and good spool(but nothing like VF-34/35)

I'd get a TD05 16G or a VF35 along with the other bits. I broke two WRX gearboxes with my 18G......API sorted me with a new gearbox from an STi but it's a 4 figure sum.

I had a bug with a Front entry 16G and it was great fun, I never thought the car was going to kill me and I was pretty sure nothing would break LOL

The UK bug and the JDM bug have the same engine apart from the jap has single AVCS (on the inlet i think)

Yeah ideally i want to keep the current box and upgrade the clutch. In terms of the 16g and the vf35 there ideally very similar on spool up? What bhp was your car running Shaun with the 16g on? I think someone told me they have a stronger bottom end or something along those lines?

Hi Kev 16G is great turbo, but problem with these turbo is lots of eBay "sellers" selling the cheap chinese copy/fake/knock off(if you are buying from eBay) and find genuine TD05-16G for fair price is something hard(some people selling 16G for almost 600£,which is ridiculous)

I ran 325 BHP on my 16G but this was about 5 years ago and I'm sure they might squeeze a bit more out of it these days.......and then the WRX dies LOL. There'snot too much wrong with the WRX clutch, It tends to protect the box

For the Bug WRX there's always Andy's AFP 4H Hybrid

Sort your brakes out, the JDM WRX bug comes with 2 pot front brakes and 250ps standard on 100 ron fuel, a UK car with PPP is 265bhp and has the 4 pots as standard, they stop quicker! and they suck.
As said the vf35 is a cheap option to go for as an upgrade, stick with around 330bhp and its going to be a quick car (as long as you do those brakes otherwise you wont stop )

Yeah I have some brakes lines up some Wilwood 6 pots, so hopefully they should pull my face off when I brake. Yeah i'm thinking VF35 and 330bhp, Brakes and some nice new coil-overs are in the pipeline, i think i'm going for the buddy spec ones.

Hi Kev Wilwood 6 pots are overkill for you at this stage, just upgrade to STi Brembo Callipers and decent pads(EBC Bluestuff,DS2500),for coilovers check the KYB(great prices are at Camskill),great upgrade from standard WRX,upgrade droplinks(for solid one from Aluminium),ARB(Rear anti roll bar for beginning).
I'm not sure, but you are don't have at front Subaru 4 pots(Subaru letters on brake callipers)?
If yes upgrade your current pads to EBC Bluestuff,EBC Redstuff or DS2500

I think they do a 4 pot version, the only reason why I want them as I'm going to the ring sometime next year with a client of mine, I will be racing their CL55 AMG bus. Haha. No I have the shocking brakes on mine, not even the subaru 4 pots. For the price I mite aswell go with the Wilwoods over the brembos. Yeah I'll checking the KYBs out.

Hi Kev if you are want good good brake calipers look for AP Racing,i think will be at same price like Wilwood.
And about suspension check Tein,Cusco(Jap Performance Parts have used for good price),i'm not sure but Slowboy Racing have for £640 Tein https://www.scoobynet.com/trader-ann...er-offers.html

Yeah the AP's are abit steep, I lived out in USA for a while so Wilwood are massive out there so i'm going to get my buddy to sort some out cheap. For the coilovers theres a local JAPSHOP near me thats doing the race spec buddy club dampers at a decent price. I'm keeping my options open for now but i drove an sti 6 with wilwood 6 pots and there were AWESOME!
