classic sti type r/ra or 2003\4 jdm or uk sti or evo 6?
ey up! i'm hoping to be in the market next year for one of the above, i've been keeping an eye on the piston heads regularly and wondered if anyone has experience of owning two or all three of them, i have owned a 1996 sti 555 edition(similar to ra) and really liked the rawness and aggressiveness of the acceleration and handling, do the newage have the same power delivery or are they smoother, i have always wanted an evo 6 and they appeal because people seem to get higher power out of them compared to scoobies, i would be looking for something around 350bhp or would modify myself to achieve this. you dont see many classics with that kind of power but they are obviously lighter than newage, whats peoples opinions what should i go for, looking to spend no more than about 8 grand

I own an MY99 STI type R (version 5) and an MY03 Spec C limited.
Performance wise, the Spec C is much more linear, you are going very quick without knowing it, look down and your in 3 figures, the type R lets you know your going quick (plus they are not as stable at higher speeds than a new age), but you have no burble on the New age JDM (sounds very nice though ) but they are super tunable out of the box
IMHO the newage STI would be the best out of the box car, even tuned its still going to be quicker than you expect (and yes, they are quicker than classics no matter what anyone say's )
Finding one at 8k may be quite hard, they do come up though but you need to know what your looking for.

I've had classic type r's & a nice sti ra, I've had evo 6's too. I currently have an 02 jdm sti.
I wanted to love the evos but couldn't, I tried on a couple of occasions but they just lack something for me personally. They are also very linear in their power delivery. Last 6 I had was 312bhp, my current sti is pretty STD and it 'feels' faster, prob nothing in it but to me I just think the impreza punches harder and feels more fun. I also prefer the driving feel of the impreza, the evo feels very light on the steering and generally more flighty.
Personally for me now I'd stay away from a classic type r unless it's got a newage engine fitted, nice cars though. I really liked my sti ra (95) the engine had a real solid feel to it but the gearing would be tiresome on anything other than a weekend toy.
Personally I'd recommend a jdm newage sti, people seem to think they'll be slow and fat but the avcs engine pulls well and they drive great.
