Default Hawk Spec-D

I went along to a grand reveal of the new Impreza at a nearby dealer. While there a Spec D caught my eye. It had 40k on the clock, remapped by Powerstation to 340bhp, prodrive springs, and was up for £13995.
There was another totally standard, 60k on the clock for £12495.
I got a bit caught up in the moment and got figures on both. They offered me 3k for my bug wrx with 81k on the clock.

I had no intention in buying a new car but its nice to treat yourself. I dont really want to treat the dealer, so am i right in thinking that they are 'dealer style' overpriced?

Nice car by the way, and understated the way I like it!

You've got to remember though that Subaru Approved includes a full warranty for 12 months, 12 months MOT, recent service and roadside assistance (or at least that's what I got). That could potentially save you quite a bit.
It still stings though when you find out what they offer you. Last Friday I got £5,500 for my 04 WRX, today it went up on sale at £7,999!

3k for a 52 plate bugeye is bad but not drastic. Im really undecided on this, I like the idea of the spec d, and the fact they have two means I would have to choose between mapped or unmapped, 40k or 60k. The 40k will need a cambelt in a year, plus the £400+ road tax, and the rest of the service charges.

Grrrrr, I wish id never gone!

Or you could buy a 26k car with the cambelt already done, 350bhp & not get ripped off by a dealer

It has a milltek exhaust with sportcat. I am not sure if it is 2.5" or 3". The dealer is not shifting on price at all, as he reckons he is going to lose on mine. So £13995 minus the 3k for mine = £10995, or £240 a month. I can get that cheaper by going with Santander on finance (20 quid a month which aint bad.
Another option is to go for another 1k on finance and look at DJJons. Then try and sell mine after.
I hate selling cars!
Then Ive got all the gubbins I bought to put on mine, thatll add up to £800 i would have thought!

So how does a 340 hp (non PPP) remapped car get a used Subaru warranty (from IM??), yet if the remap had happened within its 3 year warranty and it loses its engine in this period then a claim would be laughed at

Oh I know - the dealer "inspects" the car it is selling and says the mods are "OK" for the used car warranty to apply.

Good question. There is hell of a premium to pay for dealer 'service'.

No idea but it won't be a Subaru Warranty it will be an outsourced one most likely and as long as it's detailed in the sales agreement what the car has interms of 'options', jobs a goodun'.

Don't get me wrong he should buy yours, I was simply showing a preference if I were to buy from the dealer

I agree, the mapped one is the better option. Another thing that concerned me was that both cars have been re-tyred. WIth Falkens. Now I use Falkens, but Im not trying to sell cars at dealer prices. I dont think that says good things about them.

Im talking myself out of this!

Falkens cost dealers nothing on a trader basis, very cheap. It's easier to sell cars with a nice new set of shoes. As long as they are 452's you'll be ok until you buy a nice set of 18's.

Yeah, I have the 452s now. Good boots in their pricepoint. I do think though, that anyone looking at a Spec D, or indeed anything 'limited' would be expecting premium tyres, especially from the dealer. From what I could see they were ZIEX(?)

You expect too much. When I traded in my spotless 14k 53WRX 2 owners, beautiful motor, they put the wheels on another car and put some silver bug eye wheels on it with Khumos on. ? still sold it in a week, was a lovely car

Hi Myles,

The dealer will charge an absolute fortune for these for one main reason - warranty.

The 2.5 litre engines were a lot weaker when built and have a much shorter lifespan in comparison to the 2 litre. I bought mine 7 months back and fortunatley, as it was from a dealer, the common fault of the head gaskets / bottom end / new engine was all covered by the warranty.

There is a thread on the 2.5 engine failures (The subaru uk facebook page has a lot on comments on this too)

Having said that, the dealer has advised me when fitting the newer engines are stronger & will not have this problem.

I am now in the market to sell mine (purchased for 13.5k, in March) and looking for approx 12k - the remainder of the dealer warranty (until March 2011) & un modified, with a PPP.

It has the new engine, fitted 5000 miles ago, with oil changes at:

500 miles
750 miles
1000 miles
2500 miles
5000 miles (last week - approx 150 miles done since)

Always run on V-power.

4x new toyo T1r's & remainder of sat nav / tracker & speed camera alert (smart nav) subscription - dealer won't tell you that you need one.

The dealer I purchased from is aware that I want to sell and thinks im mad, however its back to beamers for me - as I ultimatley need a motorway car, as much as the scooby always makes me smile, it lacks the built in sat nav, heated seats etc that I've used for many years - unless a blob that makes me go wow turns up. The dealer did give me the option to renew the warranty at "cost" as I was without the car for 3 months whilst we were waiting for a new engine.

The car is the Spec D on the ESC Tunnel Run poster for this year, so should give you an idea of how clean it is. PM me for number & Give me a call if interested.

you will find that the warrenty they use is called auto protect and there crap as i have had dealings with them before and when ever something goes wrong they put it down to wear and tear. first my gear box went within 3 months so i took it to the dealer i bought it from got the box out and they stripped it, they then sent an inspector out to look at it and he said it was wear and tear so i had to pay for a rebuild. a few months later my engine went pop so again auto protect sent an inspector out and what you know wear and tear even tho the pistons had failed they wouldnt move so i got API to fix it so again another lager sum paid out by my self. subaru used to there own warrenty for there used cars and IM for there new and up to 3 year old used cars. but now all there old used cars are done by auto protect. google them im not the only person who has had bad service from them. so best bet is to buy private so you save what the dealers would charge you so it can be put aside should anything go wrong with the car. sorry about the rant

As I understand it tho, the main 2.5 failures have been with the 2008 onwards cars due to the map.

Used car warranties are not worth the paper they are written on, **** me, new car warranties are ****e too. Buy a decent private car, save a fortune & get a better car.

You are dead right, most dealers would prefer to spend the money avoiding spending out on warranty claims.

2006 STis (inc Spec D) like having head gasket failures.
