Default dodgy or not ?

just wondering wot u lot think ?
i had some work done to my bug eye and. when i went to collect my car i was told that it only made 302 bhp when 330-340 was expected ! then he said that he'd forgotten to fit the walbro fuel pump before it was mapped! but dont worry, its on there now he said ! !
i had it 3 days then it started to chuck loads of smoke out the exhaust ! i took it bak to him and he said without a doubt piston ring failure my mates reckon its because he fitted the uprated pump on after it was mapped , so the fuelings ****ed ! wot do u reckon ? am i spendin 3000 of my hard earned, and been 7 months without my scoob because he aint done his job right ? or could they be mistaken ?? cheers guys

Wouldn’t it be a complete waste of time mapping it, then sticking an upgraded fuel pump on?

his reputation is exceptional.
i dont doubt him he was the turning point in my cars life. told me what i needed to do and the result is great been working all good for nearly 2 years now. I was very impressed with his service and would recommend his services to anyone.
changing the fuel pump to a walbro is more a precaution to prevent fuel pump failure.

its likely the fuel pump been fitted after the map had nothing to do with it going pop.
the clue in is the fact that the car didnt make the power predicted, meaning it was on its last legs, i.e perhaps it was loosing compression due to the failing rings.
how many miles has the car done?

I take it this has been discussed with Simon at length?

Unless you completely ragged it's **** for three days I don't think the fuel pump would be the issue. Sounds like it was a problem waiting to happen and pushing the parameters did it in.

you have a fuel pressure reg that controlls the pressure. by just fitting a 225 pump on its own wont really change anything as the reg controlls it. so if it was mapped then a 225 pump fitted after, all i can see is giving it some safty margin over the standard punp.

but i could be wrong.

but as above, from lower than expected power, could be a sighn that it was not so well

Sounds infinitely more likely, mate!

When Simon was mapping the car he would have data on how the car was performing with respect to fueling and had he have noticed any anomalies like a failing pump or injector, the session would have been aborted then and there pending the faulty part being replaced. Simon is an A1 mapper; your problem most likely lies in the car's history!

us young Welshy's aint that bloody bad!!!!!round back lanes it probably wouldnt hurt, but if the scoobs 4wd system has been used by young Dai Jones as a substitute for his Dai****su, i.e rounding up his sheep on the Epynt Ranges then its quite possible its had a hard life!!!hope you get it sorted mate

The only advantage of the walbro 255 is that it will flow more fuel when the engine is being pushed hard. The standard pump would flow enough fuel most of the time.

Simon would see what was happening with the fueling during the map and only push it so far accordingly

If it was making less power than expected. This points to an underlying problem already

I would send the motor to a specialist and have a proper check done, by what you have posted it ahs not been confirmed as engine failure yet!

well 1st thing m8 stop driving it!! FFS, top speed run not a good idea. you are going to have to get the block stripped down do it with some 1 who specialises in impreza engines, engine tuner, API etc

I remember the car despite it being 6 or so months ago, first I have heard of this failure though.

Wasnt happy with engine, noise in detcans said it had something possibly close to failure and sounded very worn but it was not obvious enough at the time exactly what.
I left it as safe as I could but still usable power.

Obviously had you been present I could have explained first hand.

Unfortunatly engines dont last for ever unfortunatly, sorry my fears were correct.

Oh and the trader fitted a pump I had a walbro 255 and then replaced it when tje one for your car arrived if I remember correct.

Simon
