Default 34.3 mpg! Yay

This morning I thought I would do a little experiment, as I left the house this morn my petrol light came on, normally I fill up but today I thought let's do a mpg test, so my commute is 37 miles each way, mixture of roads, I figured if I could achieve around 35mpg 2 gallons (9 litres) would get me there and back, well not quite, I got to 68.7 miles before the light came back on! Not too bad tho I thought! Anyone done any better?

That's good ..... but not good enough ......

I cannot, whatever I do, get lower than 45 mpg ..... I have tried and simply cannot.

Mostly it's an embarrassing 55 mpg!!

And that's from 340 Nm of Torque!

SWEEEEEEET!

I'm really pleased, i normally get 25ish mpg, it was bloody hard work tho, serious forward planning, no stopping, constant 65-70mph, won't be doing it again! U don't buy these cars to worry bout mpg, good experiment tho

Not wishing to p*ss on your chips, but did you take into account the 8 litres or so which is in reserve when the petrol light illuminates?

It would be good, were it not a HIGHLY inaccurate method of measuring consumption.

To do it properly, fill the tank to the neck, drive around 100 miles, refill to the neck.

I wouldn't say highly inaccurate, I'm no electrical engineer but I'm assuming that the light comes on when there is a certain amount of fuel left in the tank? And my calculations were made from putting 9 litres of fuel in when the light had just come on thus taking the light off till the light came on again on the drive home 68.7 miles later

Don't take it to heart dear boy.

I am not a mad driver and have never seen better than 28mpg on a WRX 01. Ok it's lardy when against the light classics but......

On my current car I see anything from 15.2mpg to 22.0 mpg.

What mods do you have on your car etc? Any maps etc?

Well, I'm happy to report that so far I've covered 275 miles on the current tankful... that's around 23 mpg

Including a run to Scun, a blast over the Humber Bridge, a "brisk" run across to Sherburn and a couple of bites at a Z4M this evening on the way to Morrisons.

dunx

P.S. Currently guessing at 400+ bhp and 2 bar of boost...

No offence taken, I don't usually care about fuel, my average week is 350 miles to around £90, never bothered to work out mpg before, mid 20s I guess, I just pleasantly suprised that it can be economicalish if driven like a granny! Lol

Ok, but how accurate do you think the fuel light triggering mechanism is?

Not very.

I once got 34.9 mpg out of my UK Turbo 2000. 406.6 miles to Nairn in Scotland, 11.65 gallons of fuel. The most tedious journey of my life, but the scenery was wonderful.

You make me sick. Lucky if I could ever get above 300 miles on a classic tank.

Best I've managed is about 29-30 driving at a 60-70mph for 250 miles on a motorway.

On a long run I can consistently see 35 MPG from my bug.

Short daily runs to work, and 21 is more realistic
