Default Vectra VXR - sheep in wolfs

I was driving home and had one of these storm up behind me nearing a dual carriage way. I started pulling from 3rd off boost and Vectra toed it on the outside and headed it off. I pulled up along side after 50 meters but I was having to work the gears(2002 sti 273bhp). Over half a mile I was a few lengths ahead but glancing across I felt like we wasn't moving. very un-nerving feeling .

I commended him a close run, he said if it was wet he wouldn't bothered.

lots of threads about them in the other marks section. Few tunign box's around that pump them up pretty well, still a dry weather car though

That's the difference, you can drive a Subaru fast in the wet.
Also round corners.

And the Vectra is a pug ugly rep-mobile, whichever way you look at it.

LMAO you can always spot a Scooby fan boy round here can't you - hahah !!

The Vectra VXR is a seriously underrated car, that's been slated by top gear so anyone who doesn't like it immediatly jumps on the band wagon and starts with comments about the chassis etc - wether they have actually driven one or not !! Truth of the matter is, the chassis is not that bad and actually performs reasonably well in corners. With a few tweaks and replacment springs it performs quite well indeed. Granted it's not going to be able to take on a 4WD Impreza or Evo's round the twisties but then it's generally not designed to be a rally car.

Talking Dog - In all honesty the one you encounted doesnt sound like it had been tuned at all, because if it had he would have been leaving you behind to be frank. Stage 1 VXR Vectra, will be putting out 300bhp and 400lbs/ft Torque and is roughly equivelent in a straightline (once on the move) to a Hawkeye STI with PPP.

I agree, the VXR Vectra are very underestimated. I've only seen about 5 in my life time so getting to see what these can do first hand is rare. Even youtubing them returns very little results.

No doubt someone will post it up - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FHLzWwghmU

What they didn't tell you is they pulled fuses from the fuse box because they couldn't fully disable the traction control. And in doing so removed the IDS dampening/suspension control that works on the Vectra when the Sport switch is on.

One of my personal favorites - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr1WWpSeIRg

Interesting review you might want to read and bare in mind this is the 255bhp version they are reviewing not the later 280bhp version - http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/cargrouptests/65185/mitsubishi_evo_v_impreza_v_vectra_vxr_v_bmw_330i.h tml

2.8ltr V6 Turbo yes. Yet despite that I'm still getting 32 mpg and about 350miles from a tank of Tesco 99/Optimax.

They do look good, but as others say I've heard they have horrible handling.

Personally don't see the point - if I want a quick Vauxhall I'd go for a Monaro/Monaro VXR.

Yeah I guess - but still, 6 litre supercharged insanity - yes please!

Though.... I'd kill myself in minutes in one of those.

Didn't seem to do so badly in the last couple of seasons of BTCC. T888/VX Racing cars using the same chassis as the VXR.

I'd get a Monaro, they are much more iconic....popular with the street modder scene in Australia.

VXR8's are just a ubiquitous, jelly mould saloon with a big engine though. Boats.
