Default anyone just remaped without any mods ?

01 bug eye wrx - can any power be gained from just remapping a standard car ?

Simple answer is yes. Although the mapper will usually ask for an uprated fuel pump

yes, but i imagine the gains would be fairly minimal.............

Usually smooths the performance, increaes midrange pull, some small BHP improvments - often if the boost is standard level the mapper will raise it to a safer max level ( under boost cut! ) obviously giving mpre torque & power.

Generally, a remap customises the ECU to the parts in the engine, which the masss produced ECU map doesn't.


If you plan any mods, do them before the remap!

I had a PPP WRX mapped, went from 187 to 218 at the wheels.

I had an ecutek map on my old UK car when it was completely standard. It took me a few days to admit it was better but it was definitely an improvement.

I had a generic "off the shelf" EcuTek in about 2002 (MY02 Bug WRX)............. did make the car drive better through the rev range.

Far better imo to do a few simple mods first like exhaust, air filter then get the car remapped. These are cheap to do and will be a big improvement
