Default Gearbox oil gone!

So I was out the other night and when I parked up there was some smoke coming from my engine bay. On further inspection the car had dumped all the gearbox oil onto the floor it stank! Had to get taken home by the aa. Gears still select ok and it's been suggested that it's a seal on the gearbox. It's booked in the garage tomorrow, any ideas what the damage might be? Hope it too costly!

Apparently this is quite common not too much to worry about just a rubber seal that breaks sown over time. Roger Clarke motorsport sell a metal version that will last alot longer. As ling as you did not run the gearbox too long with no oil it should be fine... Fingers crossed..

Ive been quoted £170 by my local garage, but its been suggested this is quite expensive by more than one person, any thoughts?

What will they do for £170, as that's bl00dy expensive for a seal.

Get some more quotes - that's the only way you will know if you are being ripped off or not.

How did that happen? its not like the rubber seal has been on there over 2 years as thats the service interval for the gearbox oil change......
Or are we talking the seal between the engine and gearbox?

Tony
