Default strange goins on!!!

right then, i got a m8 with a 2.0 sport impreza. his gearbox has recently gone, so had it replaced and a clutch at the same time. while at the garage the battery went flat and since then the car is behavin odd. with a fully charged battery on if you try to start the car u get a very faint clicking from the starter motor and in the engine bay therz a orange glow comin from where the clutch cable goes through the holder next to starter motor. no sparks as such. if you try to start the car with the clutch pedal depressed the starter clicks much louder. 10 mins later, flat battery.
any one got any ideas?

Isn't there an earth cable that is attached to the gearbox?

I'm not 110% sure but I would check the earth cables to make sure they are connected to the right positions.
