Default Lightweight what....??

Right guys and girls,

Looking to finally put something to bed! I have my Catalunya Project car and am looking to shed some weight so this has kind have made me try to look to the truth in all of this.....

All of the chat about STI's (I am talking CLASSIC here....) and WRX differences, I am looking to find the truth about it all....

Things like:
Lighter Panels
Thinner Glass
Alloy Wishbones

etc. etc. etc.

Just what EXACTLY is lightweight/thinner etc. on the STI's than on the WRX's.

Cheers,
Chris

Nothing. WRX's and STI's are the same. I think face-lifted WRX's lost the alloy wishbones, not 100% sure, my old 1995 WRX had them.

Apart from that nothing. UK specs like the Catalunya have the heavier steel bonnet so any import bonnet will be lighter. Does your car have folding rear seats? If so the import rear bench is very light.

Myths about the RA being super light with thinner glass and lighter panels I think have been dis-proved lots of times. I believe they have less sound-deadening though (still got some). My STI RA Ltd has all the air-con, leccy windows and a stereo so probably weighs near enough as the equivalent STI. The only thing that gives it any advantage is the short ratio gearbox

It does have the folding rear seats...but as it is destined to be a track car they are already ripped out

So the only thing I need do is change the bonnet to an alloy one? (this was already on the list ) Will have to check the wishbones....hope they are alloy!!!

Spec C isn't a classic and its lighter than a lardy newage Tis a lovely car though.

Unless someone has previously changed them, I doubt your UK spec will have alloy wishbones. They are cheap enough to buy though as there are loads around.

Upping standard UK power will have a better effect than lightening (lightening is also good but 220bhp isn't). Releasing 100 extra ponies will have a greater effect than losing 20-30 KG.

V3 STI engine + drivetrain with VF35 is already in the garage to be fitted

Just looking at little jobs now that I might aswell do whilst the car is in "shell" form! Lol.

Checked over the weekend and you're right- they are steel....might aswell add that to the list for now!
