Default stiff steering suddenly appeared????

evening all,
jumped in the car (uk2000 2000my) after work and thought something was wrong straight away after moving off.
Drove to work this morning and all was well, but on returning to the car afterwards it felt like the steering was going from tight to loose and then it would be ok but you could feel a definate "stiffness" when moving the wheel slightly across the centre position......
now ive checked the fluid, and the belt seems nice and tight, no cracks etc so i was just wondering if this is a common problem? or someone has had the same problem??
any help would be massively appreciated as always
will be popping it over to Mark at Thwaites tomorrow just to be safe

Still Sounds like the power steering belt and/or PS fluid levels to me it might be air in the fluid, with the engine on move the wheel from op lock to op lock the steering wheel will bounce slightly in your hand as it hits full lock, just ease it onto full lock a couple of times and let it bounce back and see what happens/if this cures it. Likely to need to do this a couple of times, if you hear a squealing then likely the belt.

mine was like this when my PAS cooler was leaking a few days ago. check for leaks especially the PAS cooler infront of the rad. the tube is made from steel and rusts under the foam padding on the bends.

to be honest mate that was what i thought straight away, but the level is where it should be and the belt feels nice and tight......
The thing that is concerning me is how suddenly it came on, it was fine when i went to work this morning, but on returning to it 7hrs later it felt wrong straight away.
