Default Car written off whilst in for repair ...

Well .. its been a stressful 10 days ..

I put my car into a local garage for a squeaky brake .. they fixed it, took it out for a test drive and some tw@t in a white van on his mobile crossed the white line and hit it.

Insurance have written her off 5 years I had the car .. I looked after her and really spent some money keeping her healthy

Sadly now:

http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g2...r/DSCF3986.jpg
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g2...r/DSCF3981.jpg

However the sliver lining is I have the insurance pay out to buy myself something nice .. I'd like a classic .. ideally one at around 300BHP ..

.. the guy that crashed my car was gutted as you can imagine ..

So what's on offer to replace the love of my life ?

That's a real shame mate

I hope the other guy, or the garage insurance is handling this? How will it work when declaring accidents you've had in the last five years etc?

Would it not come under the garages insurance? They were responsible for the car whilst with them after all.
You dont want that ruining your NCD

Sorry to hear that fella, I agree with the Insurance comments though.

Shouldn't be declared on your policy.

What did the white van man do keep his foot on the throttle after hitting it?

White Van mans insurance have settled with me .. he was on his mobile at the time.

My insurance is A plan and they were fine with it. No affecting me at all.

Still totally gutted to lose my car ..

Thats a proper shame mate!

Hopefully as said, the insurance is between the garage and the white van man so your NCB should be safe

Mate of mine once told me to look at these situations as an oppertunity, looks like you are

Glad all the insurance side is sorted fella, one less thing to worry about. Still doesn't take away the fact you've lost your car though, gutted every cloud though...........

That's a real shame, after 5 years you'll know the car inside out and everything that was good and bad about it. I just hope you get lucky and find a good'un to replace it

Funnily enough my green classic got hit by a white van about 18 months ago. They say there is something about green cars being the most accident prone, people don't see them ???

What category of write off is it? Mine was a CAT C which meant it could be fixed up and put back on the road after an inspection. I bought the car back off the insurance company for 10% of the value (4K), so i paid 400 for it. I sold it on to someone who worked in a body shop and made a over a grand profit. My car looked similar to yours.

Hi Pimmo.

Glad to see the insurance paying out - did you get a decent settlement?

What a waste of a nice car, you must be gutted after owning 5 years.

You defiantly want to get the wheels back off your old car!

I really hope they screw the guy who was on his phone, do him for undue care and points and fine for being on his phone, it could have been alot worse, especially if it was head on

I'm not sure if this is still valid, but if it is he could actually get done for dangerous driving, meaning up to two years inside. No less than the selfish plØnker deserves, either.

Tragic waste of a good motor
