Perhaps I should have been less specific with the model year then. Lets say any new age WRX.

Question

This will surely have been covered before, but I need to know now, and can't search the archives. What exactly is provided in the PPP for the new WRX? Who's got it? How bloody good is it? Should I get it?

Cheers.

Thumbs up

1 Piggyback chip to fool ECU into more boost
2 Restricter reduced to 1.15mm from 1.2mm
3 centre cat removed
4 Prodrive Backbox (not WRsport)
5 Samco/Prodrive intercooler piping

Power is around 265bhp

full de-cat will push this to 280+

I have ported headers and an APS induction kit and got 286bhp with 273lb/ft

Thanks for the replies so far. Does it sound good (the exhaust)? Will it affect insurance premiums?

Makes a good increase in performance, and warrenty still in place, downpipe not included. Power wise expect some where between the two figures quoted above. My UK300 made 248BHP on the rollers with only 3800 miles, engine still needs more miles to fully loosen up.

I believe Prodrive quote 245bhp for the PPP when it is run on at least 97RON petrol, torqure rises to around 235ib/ft.

I just sold me Evo VI, (which will remain as the best car I ever own!) and need something les 'full on', which rules out the STi. A standard looking WRX with PPP might just be the answer. A pal had an RB5 with all the prodrive gubbins and it sounded great and went pretty well too. I aint too bothered exactly how many BHP's its got but would feel the need for more than standard I reckon (after owning 2 standard UK Turbos in the past).

I moved from a MY98 to an 01 and try as I might I couldn't convince myself that it didn't need something extra, that something was the PPP. It's now much more fun than the *standard* old shape ever was.

if Prodrive only brings up to 245bhp - whats about a scoobysport or TSl zorst - aren't they quoting similar figs and they're a lot cheaper aren't they? Does sccobysport system (not inc downpipe) affect the warranty?

Dont read everyhting into the quoted power increases for SS/TSL exhausts only.... the power only comes in at 5-6000rpm - and you get a nasty flat spot lower down. The PPP totally spanks a full exhaust in the torque low down - some 60-70ft/lbs more all the way up to 4000 rpm, and still higher at the redline.

Check the dyno graphs on this site - compare Pete Croneys to the guy with the MY01 PPP.

thanks guys - i was considering whether to go the zorst or PPP route and your comments have helped push me in the PPP direction - even if it a bit more expensive.....

When somebody mentioned a downpipe was included with the PPP I was all for getting it, but now it apparently isn't I can't quite see 1600 quids worth of tackle in it.

your right there's not £1600 worth of tackle but they have to cover developement costs, so yes it is over priced but like others may have mentioned it's a fit and forget with warranty intact and they obviously take that into account when pricing.

However if you look at the price of a SS BB and centre with VAT that's around £550 including fitting, an ECU upgrade you've got to be talking what, £700??? intercooler hosing + fitting, a 1'er. so you could look at it as if your paying £250 for the warranty and the fact that it's blue.

If anyone else has got any better/more accurate figures I'd be interested, this is just off the top of my head.
Also how long does it take to fit a PPP, how long does the dealer have your car for, a morning, a day.

Cheers,

boultsy.

I would tend to believe more power and torque figures from Subaru and Prodrive rather than a rolling road result. Bench engine dyno is the only accurate way of measuring it. RR are good for showing difference between mods and cars on the same day and for setting up a car optimally and picking up problems but IMHO thats about it. Oh and obviously good for the pub .

For the MY01 >, the PPP is an exchange ECU which has a piggyback board fitted. The dealer then fits the complete ECU.
