Hello peeps. Just thought I would try and get prepared nice and early !

Could people tell me of where I can find a definitive list of what is legally required in the car when in France / Germany.

Here is what I think / or have heard of:

Green card (for insurance)
Spare bulbs (legal requirement?)
Warning triangle (legal requirement?)
First aid kit (legal requirement?)

If anyone can confirm or deny the above it would be most appreciated. If there are any web sites that detail the full requirements, then please post them below.

DO NOT under any circustances bring a radar detector with you, HUGE on the spot fines in France for having one (note having not neccesarily using), and they impound your car till you get the cash as well....

Also in Germany it is illegal to run out of fuel on the Autobahns.

For reference countries visited last time were, France, Belgium, Germany, may or may not also visit Luxembourg.

You dont always need a green card mike as many insurance policies are europe wide now anyway.

Do inform your broker and get a letter from them if you have a euro cover policy, just helps if you end up having a chat with the friendly german police.

Ensure your tyres meet german legal standards as they have tighter controls on tread depth than us.

take some spare tyres if you think you may wear them out on the ring, remember the ring is a public road, its not a track.

if you (or any other driver) wear glasses, you must carry a spare pair in France (and possibly Germany) - and it makes sense to do so anyway!
