Default Insurance just killed my Wagon.

Few months ago my '95 STi Wagon was £430 a year. The cheapest i can get now is £880. Might not be a lot to some but i also pay £1200 a year for my '05 STi. £1200 for a £12000 car is still ok, i cant get my head around paying £880 for a car i paid £1500 for. I really dont want to let the wagon go

Maybe some one can give me a clue to why. I am 37 years old, had my license from 97 but my UK one from 2003. 4 years no claims bonus. Never claimed, not speeding convictions, no crashes.

Any help would be good.

Scoobs are cheaper now as they are old opening ownerships up to CHavs types who crash 'em a lot.

i was the same trying to renew my insurance for my hawkeye wrx, my admiral insurance jumped from 453 to almost 800 for no reason,no points,7yrs protected no claims 32yr old,

tried various companies on here and got around 700quid, didnt get a quote from sky insurance due to not having the car parked in driveway or garage. tried for 2wks to get a hold of gary but to no luck, but defo try them keith michaels, also a-plan ,

i just did a few price comparison sites and then added a few things to the car so declared these parts and got it for 551 inc my mods, from admiral ,crazy stuff.

best to look around mate ,have u tried one of those multicar policies

Did try a multi car policy but was reminded that my no claims bonus can only work on one car so having a Subaru Wagon "high performance car" as the insurance guy says, with no claims makes it non insurable for me.

Will try some of the names above, cheers.

You will have to insure one of your vehicles without any NCB as you can only use them on one car at a time. My Impreza has my 4yrs NCB on the policy and when i bought my 306 diesel, the insurance company told me that my NCB could not cover 2 cars at the same time

As i wrote above mate, thats why i cant insure the wagon as the insurance company will not insure the car with less than two years no claim bonuses.

It's a pain in the rear for me to tell the truth, i really dont want to sell her.

Has to be the biggest rip off that. How can you be more likely to crash a second car than only one? You can only drive one a time.

Get a traders policy. And you will be quids in. My mate got on for £1200 per year, can drive any car up to £40,000.00. Simples. Oh and he is only 24, and drives a 450 bhp Evo 5. LOL

I agree with what others have posted. Try to get in touch with specialist insurers or brokers. Isleworth, so how many miles do you rack up? Could you put either car on a limited miles policy? Other than that, think of the insurance as a total for both cars. Ball park of under £1700 for both cars insured? Oh, does the MY95 STI have Thatcham approved imobiliser/alarm etc. If not, it might be worth getting one fitted if it improves the insurance situation enough.

If the car's only worth £1500 why not just pay for TPF&T. Also ask the insurance company what you can do to minimize the premium, just keep schtum & let them talk until the premium comes down.

That will be fine until he needs road tax. Don't think you can tax a car now unless you have an insurance document with the number plate on it

£880 is Fire, theft and third party. Wagon is fitted with Thatcham system and sleeps on my drive in a private, gated estate.

Will give all the above ideas a go and let you know how i get on.

Thats not the case dude. If you are keeping the car, you must tell your insurance company, and they and it to your certificate.

Another one of my mates not been a dealer for 12 years, and he has still got his trade cover. And you don't need to be a dealer to have trade insurance. You can do a multitude of jobs, that require you to have a traders policy.

i can gauruntee he hasnt declared his modifications on the evo. all trade policies will ask if any of the cars you drive are modified. also a lot of trade policies will not insure under 30s for cars like subaru and evos. i think if he reads the small print on his policy he will find his £1200 polocy is not worth the paper it is written on.

Insurance companies are slowly but surely closing the loopholes for young driver with trader policies. they are not a catchall/drive any car you want policies that they used to be. Trust me i have had this major PITA for 2 years running now and i am 44 FFS

His policy clearly states modified cars and imports, etc. The insurance company has a list of all the mods. He has clearly stated everything, trust me :-)

Sorry.
Just remember buying a car once and having to send a covernote to the trader as he couldn't tax the car on his policy.

I think your best bet is to search around for a good quote with both cars being on the same as i dont fancy paying over a £100 each month for car insurance! Failing that i will combine mine and the missus and get a multi-car thingy

Taxing a car on a trade policy is not a problem, but some do have restrictions regarding passengers or how long you can keep a car in your posession without registering it in your name. Well that used to be the case anyway....

If you have a trader policy does the car have to be owned by the business?
