Question STi Advice

Been looking to change from classic to STi hatch

Are all STi with prodrive kit 330 HP ?

By how much do prodrive springs lower the car ?

It will need to cope with speed bumps -

anyone who knows the car parks in Ayr will understand my concerns

Thanks !

Hi Terminator

Had same classic wagon for 10 years

Need a change !

Will soon get bus pass but still have not found alternative to Impreza

Have replaced front door speakers and knock sensor in 10 years & 4 months

Not expecting to do as well again.

Look at the JDM twin scroll version of the hatch, suffers none of the issues the UK cars suffer from (engines, steering etc).

i know them well mate,

but u will still get over them if u go slow and turn ure wheels at an angle then u will get over them,

the ones down the shore front are massive and i can still get over them even with a front spiltter fitted,

Ok

Standard MY08 STI is 300bhp
MY08 with PPP is 330bhp
330s come with ppp as standard and is 330bhp

Prodrive springs IIRC lowered my car by
front 10mm
rear 5mm

I believe others have seen a graeter drop, mines an EU import so not sure if they have different/lower springs to uk car, doubt it though.

Never had a problem with mine on speed bumps and it has a splitter at the front, with the PD springs the front splitter will catch on a standard kerd though if that gives you an idea.

There are a lot of hatch haters out there that will say this and that about the engine, its true that many have failed but if your buying new or a car within warranty, as long as you do not mod then you should be covered. Many out there will say the hatch is the best all round Impreza to date, me included.

Check out the hatch thread in the gallery section for more details on them.

Good luck with your purchase.

But, given the negative publicity about the engines, is it really wise to fork out for a new car where there are many cases of known failures ?

Whilst the chance of failure could be relatively small, the impact of a failed engine is too great to ignore - given some of the hassle that some have had claiming, the time / inconvenience and the inevitable pressure on used prices.

My other half like the look of the quad exhaust STI hatch, but I'd need a car that would be as reliable as her 100k miles H6, I do not want the family to be stranded or left carless due to something I knew about.

2.5 ltr Hawkeye STi 285 bhp Standard ( I think! ) , 315 bhp with PPP

Average 20mm at front , 15mm at rear but as said it varies with each car I find , esp between the Blobeyes, Hawkeyes and Hatches

Off experience you should be fine with speed-bumps, kerbs are your worst fear.. kno someone who had a Blobeye and went thro 4 Scott Lowe front splitters in 1 year!

Hope that helps ,
Steve

Steve

Yup, more or less. To be pedantic, the Hawks are 276bhp std and 316bhp with PPP. More torquey too.

Seems you're not privileged after all! Some insurers effectively "cherry pick", ie they leave other insurers to cover high group vehicles, young drivers etc.
