Jet washing best avoided, as it's a very good way to get water into places it shouldn't go - electrical connections and inside the timing belt cover for example. Very easy to muck your radiator and intercooler up too. Water at very high pressure vs aluminium fins, the water will win.

Some spray on engine/machine cleaner and a paintbrush will do you to clean, and then a carefully aimed light hose spray to rinse. Then drive it round to get it hot immediately to make sure it all evaporates off.

Warm engine up for 2 mins.
Cover fuse box, alternator, alarm sounder with cling film.
Cover intercooler with cardboard or clingfilm.
Apply a degreaser or All Purpose Cleaner to the engine and bay.
Allow to dwell for 5mins.
Agitate with brush of your choice.
Rinse with low pressure hose or watering can
Repeat if necessary.
Drop bonnet and allow to tickover for 10 mins.
Mop up excess water with microfibre cloth.
Apply dressing of your choice.
Drive for 20 mins to harden the dressing.
Remove any excess dressing with microfibre.
Stand back, admire, then treat yourself to a nice cold beer

Yeah I find a steam cleaner works better than a hose as you can really get into all the nucks and crannies of the inlet manifold etc.
