hi guys had exhaust system fitted and 2nd cat remove today, sounds great and feels more responsive re mapping on wrx 54 plate what bhp would i be able to go to on the standard turbo not sure which one it is also what else can be done to increase the horses

Usually about 280 bhp on the standard turbo

the wrx engine really looking at about 350~360bhp as a sensible target.. have run them at 400 but just depends on how much you want to risk it failing.

Otherwise to get to 400 you are looking at engine rebuild with uprated internals or risk your standard engine, sti tmic or preferably front mount intercooler, bigger turbo, bigger injectors, tubular headers, remap etc.. not cheap

New turbo, injectors, intercooler, fuel pump and a remap plus in the long term clutch and gearbox.

And what I missed and Simon mentioned.

280 bhp quick enough for most. 400 bhp is an arm and a leg

In addition to what the other guys said thats also very important our the brakes

going to build engine over winter have it in for spring summer so thought i would go for the 400/500 mark. Had 385 in cosworth which i built many years ago and now want to do it again would like this one remaped to 300 ish

Much as posts 4 and 5. Driven sensibly the gearbox is not an issue. Run a good 18G and you have no problems. Go for a 20G to 380-390 and you are on the edge of where it could become a problem.
