No joke. When the cars running i can take the key out and lock the car. This is a good thing at the moment as i have no turbo timer yet.
I take it mines faulty then ?

Mine does this too. I've a UK94 car (one of the first) and it does it too. Found out by accident when I was playing with the keys waiting for it to cool down.

Thought that there was something wrong with it but you can only remove the key when the ignition is fully on/off and not inbetween.

It's handy in the winter as you can start the car and lock it and go back inside until it's warmed up ;-)

Iain.

I've actually unlocked the car after letting it warm up and then stuck the keys in my pocket and it's only when I've gotten to work that I've noticed the keys not being in the ignition, glad it hasn't stalled ;-)

Steering lock wont come on when the engine is running ;-)

Believe me, if it was able to come on it would have done as there are some fairly tight bends up here ;-)

I figured that it was a feature that they removed from later cars after finding that it's illegal to leave your car running unattended in the UK.

It's not mentioned anywhere at all and I've checked with other people at meets and never found anyone yet who had the same.

The ignition is on when it's running, it's just that you can remove the key, you would need to stall it or put the key back in to switch it off.

Wink

It's not an april fool.

The first time it happened I thought all sorts of dodgy things must have happened to the car or that the lock was knackered but checking it out, the key cannot be removed when the ignition is part on (when you can listen to the radio) but can when it's fully on or off.

It's been like that ever since I bought the car a few years ago, to be honest if I hadn't been fiddling with the keys waiting on it to cool down I probably wouldn't even have noticed.

Maybe it's only the early MY94's that do it?

My car also has the alloy bonnet and a couple of other things it wasn't meant to have until later on too so maybe the first ones are more like the imports than the later UK ones?

Sounds more like it's an import. can be verified by the VIN number as it won't have as many digits as a UK car if it is an import.

Definitely a UK car though as it's been serviced a few times by the original dealer (used to be Reekies in Forres) and they remember selling it (and even who they sold it to).

Was checking out the differences between mine and Ken's 555 STi and there doesn't appear to be much at all different (ECU aside ;-)
