Default fuel grades

Just had a bit of a question on fuel grades, my dads mate who owns a 95 classic wrx has been filling up with standard unleaded for the last 4 years + since he bought it and he never had any issues. My point is hes paying between 1.14-1.16 a litre and im paying anywhere between 1.22-1.28 for my super unleaded why bother if there not a major difference.

There is a huge difference if the car has been mapped to run on the better fuel. I never dare run mine hard on poor fuel even before its re-map for fear of damage!!

Your dads mate must never open that car up or its had an ecu chip added for 95 ron fuel, "most" JDM classics (pre 99) will kill themselves quite happily running on 95 and being given a good blast, 99-00 cars will just det the pistons to death with 95 in as they are mapped for 100 ron fuel and not 97 like the previous cars.
You can take the risk if you wish, 2+k for an engine rebuild for the sake of a few pence, plus you get better burn running a higher octane fuel so its more economical and gives you better performance
Get him to fit a KS3 and watch his face in horror when it bleeps at him
