its the same 99 ron that tesco used previously, just a rebrand. Have you always used it? Could be a bad batch or it could have been in the tanks for a while (most people shopping at tescos will just use regular unleaded)

always used tescos. i was told they have a new supplier. under hard boost now my check light flashes which on simtek ecu is a knock warning. got some octane booster now to see if it helps. my tank was dry, 20miles into filling tank, first time i gave it beans light came on.

As said above, it is most likely a bad batch. Tesco don't have another supplier they buy their S.Unleaded exclusively from Greenergy International, however they have just signed a new contract with a different haulier. The "momentum" bit is just their attempt at a brand name.

I wouldn't worry too much about petrol as your fuel tank is likely to be air tight 90% of the time and would/should have no water ingress.
Because most fuels now contain a "bio" element, they are now so called "live" fuels in which bacteria can start to grow if open to any elements for a period of time. Diesel is contains more oil than petrol and has a much shorter lifespan, we tell our customers to use diesel within 3 months.

hi all
put 25.00 in the tank today,
had a bit of fun along the twisties on the way home...
checked with my laptop and i had abit of knock around 2800 rpm
and it knocked the iam back to 15 instead of 16..
never had any problems before they changed over the brand
seems like im going to have too retard timing there ..

Got to be honest. I have used the stuff on/off over the last three years. Only noticed before and now how quick I get through the stuff.
However, I have noticed mid range on the latest fill up that when putting the right foot down it holds back a little more than it did on the last tank full of it (But could be temp related?). Also getting a very black exhaust at present and throwing out a lot of deposit on tick over from cold.
Filling up next tank on V-Power and Meth so will monitor.

No issue here
One thing to note is because it contains an oxygenate (5% ethanol) and I use it an old jag that runs open loop EFi, it does run a tincy wincie bit leaner when put on the emission tester. Not a problem on cars with enough mapped enrichment or wide band OS sensors.

like i said, never had issue till now. running car on it for 3 years, but somethings isnt right this time. as id imagine you all know your cars as i do mine. and something isnt right, upon checks of everything only thing left is fuel. tomorrow im putting nf octane booster in. then do a dew miles and mix it in and give beans. see what happens, but v power is way forward for now i think tell i get jgm to map it. one bad batch may be enough to kill engine, not worth risk in my own opinion. especially after ££££'s rebuilt.

Agreed it's not worth risking engine for the unlikely chance you'll get a bad batch of fuel.
I used to use Tesco 99 on my old MY99 UK car, but the lights on the knocklink lit up after filling up one day - assumed I got a bad tank of fuel.
After that, I just use V-power; downside is too great, with a costly rebuild, even if the chances of a bad batch with detonation are low.

I mainly blame it down to the fact most high octane fuels regardless of brand have such a low demand that it sits there stagnating under the station forecouts for weeks on end, then when teh tank is refilled it disturbs what condesation and stagnant fuel that accumulates in there making it worse for any poor sod filling up a few hours after the tanker has done a delivery. Whilst 95ron has such a high demand it never stays there long enough to be a problem.
IMO if you are so worried about killing your engine, you should map the car the for the minmum allowable criteria for BS 7800:2006 Which hapens to be a legal minimum of 97RON.
Its quite feasible to have a 98, 99 or 100ron fuel detriorate to levels of a 97ron fuel, as its still conforms to to the relevent British Standard.

What fuel was the car mapped on?
