By running no DV mate, but not really recommended by some people, plus only certain turbos can take the abuse from what i gather. Do a search you will find loads of threads with lots of differing opinions.

Try a turbosmart supersonic adjustable dump valve mate, you can turn it on and off as required then. Have just sold mine and gone back to a recirc.
You can pick them up on ebay for 50-80 quid

One thing i found when running no dv was if you're running a tmic it doesn't seem to be as prominent as an fmic. Also the higher boost you run the louder it's likely to be too. You'll also need an induction kit to hear it. Just my experience, others may find it different.

The turbosmart dump valve... Surely you need to re-map the car every time you make a change to the dump valve setting?

Wouldn't that get a bit expensive?

Not sure why you'd need to remap for a dv?

Im not sure either... I was just thinking that if you change the way the dump valve operates, this would change the turbo dynamics, and thus would need to be remapped each time?

I'm a novice at this so Im more than likely wrong!

In that video, how the hell does the driver drive at that speed on snow! Is it just incredible driver skill, or an unbelievably capable car, or both?!

I've never worried remapping for a dv. Ideally I guess you would. The vta dv tends to cause overfuelling so not ideal but not as bad as leaning it out.

ALS and no DV. Can be done for about £1200. Not sure how long your engine and turbo would last though if you used it all the time.

It's the turbo stalling. Wastegate chatter is nonsense afaik. As above, remove your DV (recirc or vta) and you'll get the noise. To hear it in the car though you'll need an induction kit fitted else the noise will be muffled by the airbox.

What air filter and type of intercooler are you running? Also what boost pressure? I think the higher the boost the louder the sound as there's more pressure causing the turbo to stall.

I run a twin scroll with a vf turbo and i have heard the vf series turbo on the twin scroll jdm does not respond well to the dump valve being removed and i also am trying to achieve this sound and purchased fmic and induction kit anybody know if you can remove the dv from jdm twin scroll vf series or not and the implications.

I don't think the vf range last very well with no dv. That's why I've not done it on my current v3 sti.

Correct, the more boost, the more noise. WRC cars are running over 3 bar of boost, and are also invariably driven flat out, with a lot of quick lift-offs and straight back on. Add that to no DV, a very open induction tract, aggressive ALS and the air restrictor, and you get the chirp.

The downside of a car that sounds like that is the need to rebuild the engine every 1000km.

There was a massive thread in the technical forum about removing the DV completely. Have a search in there. Was quite a while ago but it's a good read.

No matter what anybody says, running a turbo car without a dump valve puts additional load on the turbo and therefore will reduce turbo life to some extent. On some turbos such as most sleeve bearings this will not matter but on some of the roller bearing VF turbos this is not a good idea.
The advantages of running no dump valve if the dump valve is working properly in the first place are questionable unless you regard the sound difference as an advantage.
The OE Subaru dump valves usually work remarkably well by the way so spending large amounts of money on an aftermarket dump valve is often a case of shooting yourself in the foot, particularly if performance is your key aim.

Hi harvey would you say the vf43 is capable of running dv less with it been a sleeve bearing turbo then???

sorry for the thread hijack!

I have no direct VF43 experience but think it is probably a very capable turbo.
Yes I think it can run satisfactorily without a DV as outlined above but like I say, for me the biggest incentive to run with no DV would be because of an underlying issue with the DV not performing its job satisfactorily and leaking..
