Default Sticky Number plates - are the legal?

Is it legal to put a stick on number plate on the bonnet above the grille on my blobeye without displaying the standard plate below the grille?

I've had one on my 03 STI for about 3 years now and never had a problem with the police or MOTs

You might be lucky, but if there's a 'by the book' pc around your car, then here's the details to check: -

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...ates/DG_181503

And an extract: -
"When replacing your number plate you should make sure that the correct material has been used to manufacture the plate. It should be made from a reflective material. Front number plates must display black characters on a white background and rear number plate must display black characters on a yellow background.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency is not aware of any self-adhesive number plates that meet the British Standard requirements.

There is nothing that says you can't use stick on number plates - The DVLA only says they are not aware of any stick on plates that comply, this doesn't mean there aren't any.

As long as they are reflective, the letters have the correct font and spacing, have the BS stamp and where they were made they will comply.

Don't forget that number plates are made from a strip of thin plastic that is stuck onto clear perspex I can't believe that its not possible to get the glue put on the other side???

now there comes your problem with ' is it legal'

i tried to have a set done by a vinyl co but there refused to do them as they were 'ilegal.'

Many places ask for your log book etc as you well know. And its those places thst will not do stick on plates..

Thats a fair point Simon. I guess I'll just have to make some enquiries and see what comes of it.

If I can get them done by a 'bona fide' manufacturer and produce log book, proof of address etc, that's ideal but if not I'll just see what other options are available.
Show Plate manufactureres or something.

Had mine like this for 5 years with no issues. It's a full size square one cut down.

I have had one for nearly 2 years now on my import wagon but I'd like to put one on my UK STI. I read on one of these threads recently about UK cars having to have standard UK oblong plates, and clearly an 'import' type could be deemed non conformist. However, I have put this on my phone as a little insurance policy This is a UK STi

a full size car square front plate is legal on the front of any car but the bike square front plate is illegal on cars as the letters and the spacing is smaller
