MOTUL SPORT 5W-50
High Performance Lubricant
100% Synthetic – Ester

Engines producing medium to high dilution in the oil.
.
PERFORMANCES
STANDARDS: API SM / CF
Ester Technology : Ester based formula to ensure outstanding oil film resistance at very high temperature, for maximum horsepower, torque output and wear protection. Oil pressure is stable whatever the conditions of use.
API SM / CF : Highest API ( American Petroleum Institute ) performance level :
Improved oxidation resistance, improved deposit protection, better wear protection, and better low-temperature performance over the life of the oil for perfect compatibility with the latest generations of engines requiring a lubricant with the specification API SM / CF.
5W-50 grade allows excellent oil flow into the engine, fastest oil pressure set up and faster rev raisings.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Oil change: according to your own use, or tuner’s recommendations.
Can be mixed with synthetic or mineral lubricants.

Never less than 10 W anything in a Subaru turbo if you want to keep the engine in one bit. REGARDLESS of all the technical jargon.

When will people learn
10W - 40 is what Subaru recommend ...... STICK WITH THAT!
Too many Hobbyists play about thinking they know better .... 50 is treacle and 5W is water - go ahead use it, after all it 'looks' impressive!

Yeah maybe they do, but their current track record for busted engines with no explanation is not great.
We are happy with 10W40 or 10W50 or 15W40 & 15/W50 The Castrol RS 60 grade is, in my opinion, too far the other way and will cost power. After all 75 grade is gear oil.................
As I understand it the larger number is what the oil actually is and the lower number is how it behaves at minus 5 celcius.

Generic 75W90. If we get a chance on a fresh box we use Motul semi synth 75W90 as it will prolong the life of the bearings and synchros BUT putting it in at anything over 20,000 miles is too late to make much of a difference, , long term.
For hard track use we use Motul Gear Competition 75W140 fully synth. BUT it is eye watering expensive at £32.50 per litre. +VAT
However, they say that once you have bought it it will last forever, just drain it and sieve it through some ladies tights [ ideally after she has taken them off ] and re-use it as it is ' for life ' oil.
So in the long term it may not be too expensive providing some clot doesn't drain it and bin it.

****. I've just chucked a load of expensive synth gear oil away that had only done a few hundred miles (because I drained it for a release bearing collapse and got bits of crap in it). Good idea for next time though.
